Fun with HIDs

Post by manicdan »

ok heres a quick review of my experience with the flowlight HIDs.light output: 9.5i got the 6k so it would be an nice powerful clear white, and its like using a ultraviolet light on the road lines, they literally GLOW. Ease of install: 5ok it looks like no one has ever seen the inside of our engine, they tell u to cut ur car parts and jam a bunch of wires into ur headlight. well since ours dont have the wires coming from inside the headlight casing we only need the wires going directly to the light in there, instead of their idea of puting in those, plus about 4 other wires and a connector. simply put, it never would have fit there way. took me about 2 hours to install, most of that was thinking and staring, i ended up cutting their parts and used some neoprene foam i have from my computer mods to seal the hole.bulb design: 0, thats right ZEROwe use the H4/9003. its a duel filament where the low beam has a metal cover so it only shines on half the reflectors. and the highbeam is able to shine on all of them, instead they have the metal cover on BOTH, so the highbeam halogen that cost them 3$ and us 100$ cannot be used as a highbeam, it only makes the lowbeam more powerful, and makes a nice ugly blend of yellow. i can easily believe that whoever desgined that H4/9003 bulb NEVER looked at the original design first. i can think of atleast 5 different ways for them to move parts around in their design that would be cheaper to make and work just like the original.compatibility: ZERO AGAINthats cause they never tested nor cared about the result of their products. many cars now have their low beam turn off when the highs turn on and yet they dont sell the proper adapters to fix this. instead the depend on a forum for HIDs to help u figure it out, and even there the information and wording is so different between each person u cant figure it out without an electrical engineering degree. all the company has to do is desgin a simple relay and sell it for 3x the cost to make and call it a bundle package. they could have taken away all the scare of people screwing up their own, and just give a compatibility chart so u can tell which one u need, and if u dont know, they can explain how to test and then add ur car to the list. but nope they would rather just sell the HID and say good luck, have fun, and dont forget about the 15% restocking fee. after many hours looking over the HID forums ive concluded that even if i can set up the relay to tell my car to give power to both the hid and highbeams, it wont matter cause they F'ed up the bulb design anyway, so no more back woods driving for me. unless i mod my fog lights to work like them, but then i cant use them normaly like i do. or i can add some more fog lights just for the highbeams, but that might look tacky. so im screwed anyway.

Well that's a bummer hearing about the frustrations. Thanks for posting this though. Hopefully it will save others from the same issues.

kits exist that work like you want them to. they use shutters to enable/disable high beams. should return those and get a decent kit.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

returning these is exactly what im gonna do. i need to find one thats ment for a car that turns off power to the lows when it uses the high, and one that designs it like the original. or just buy cheaper ones that have only a low for a much cheaper price.

I have the flowlighting hids and my low HID beams do turn off when I turn on my highbeams.you must have them wired incorrectly because I did run in to the problem you are discribing with both lights staying on.I was able to figure it out. This is the kit you have right?
