Which city has the worst drivers?

Post by TraySeeLea »

http://men.msn.com/articlemh.a...age=1I found this article interesting seeing how you would think places like LA and NYC would have received a grade of F for bad drivers.... NYC got an A+,Rochester (my hometown) hit the list at #23 with a BBuffalo ranked even higher with an A....I always knew I was a professional driver haha

I used to live in Buffalo and i can vouch for the terrible drivers... gets worse in the snow... I would place Burlington Vt 2nd, in the places i've lived... simply horrible... EDIT: I just saw Burlington got an A-.... Now i'm REALLY scared of driving down south... I guess the snow makes us better drivers..

Miami has the worst drivers I've ever dealt with. A close second would be I-5 in So. California, not because of the cars, but the motorcycles that ride in between the lanes. The worst part is that the CHP officers drive their bikes the same way.

All the cities that didn't get A, B or C must have been filled with Volvo drivers. It seems that no matter where I go, I'll see some pinhead in a Volvo either cut someone off, split lanes, or some other stupid thing.

In and around the DC area, that would be Virginia with a capital F. And Maryland really blows my mind. People sit in the left lane on the 6 lane highway and go 55 or 60. I blow down the far right doing 80. Second would be San Fran its the only place I have driven where people are sooooooooooo slow. Nobody is in a rush out there. We did 60-65 on the highway to Sonoma/Nappa for wine and it felt like 90 cause people were going unbelivably slow. Now for the m*******s. Sorry folks, its not just cause I'm a Yankees fan. First, if someone is behind you, get over and let them pass. Second, going slower does not make things better. You are asking for more trouble by starting a road rage with the driver. Sorry I have yet to see a MA driver do anything right.

I love living in the Tristate, NY'ers don't bother me cause they fly around just as much as most CT people do. At least around the city, upstate near the lakes its a bit slower.

I noticed while in seattle with all the traffic that drivers there were pretty polite.

In Maryland, there is NO law saying that "slower traffic keep right" and "left lanes for passing only." So, anyone can drive any speed on any lane. Also there are no restrictions on trucks using the left lane, so they go slow in the left lanes to avoid the merging right lanes. It's insane!

Quote, originally posted by drunkenmaxx »you guys really think that is unique to maryland? it happens everywhere you drive.Probably, but most states have laws about lane usage, which sometimes can be enforced for impeding traffic. Maryland does not have lane usage laws, so no enforcement. It really has created a lot of road rage incidents lately.

illinois has a law that says you can't stay in the left lane for more than X amount of time. it's not enforced anywhere. there are idiots in every city and town.

Woot hometowns!! 73 - Washington, DC - D+ and how the heck did Baltimore place 33??? - Baltimore, MD - B- They MUST not live here! There *are* truck restrictions on I-95 between Baltimore and DC and (IIRC) on the Balt beltway... my dad's a retired driver, so i have a pretty good source for this. Most truckers end up using those lanes to pass the craptasic drivers going 45mph in the trucks' version of the fast lane

Technically on Route 15 the Merrit and Wilbur Cross Parkways has a restriction on trailers, commercial vehicles of any kind, and Tractor trailers. It also says that the left lane is for passing only, so the MA people need to read up and anyone on your (removed) in the left lane, move over. I've seen cops pull people over for going to slow in the passing lane on the Parkway. It is also a National Monument of sorts in the way it was built. Two lanes, cars and bikes only. I love passing a tractor trailer on the side being held up with traffic cause he cannot make the underpass and yelling "good job ***hole! " makes me feel better when I know they are getting a 3k fine for being on that road.

I've had the privilege (and/or misfortune) of driving in about 15 of the cities spanning the entire list... though some of the west coast ones were only for a day or two on business trips. I'd have to agree that the list seems reasonable, if it's simply a relative measure. One consistency in the list seems more related to the general politeness of the drivers. I currently live in the Baltimore/DC metro area and have had more people intentionally cut me on the highway here than in Pittsburgh, Cleveland, or Buffalo -- all of which I've done a lot of driving in. By "intentional", I mean that I signal a lane change and someone immediately accelerates to pass me on the same side as the signal... I think this may be why no one in DC actually uses signals! (The negative feedback loop here should be obvious).Anytime I've been in Buffalo, drivers have almost always been willing to open up a space if I signal. Since I don't know the area extremely well, I would occasionally make a last moment realization that I needed to be in a different lane. I don't think I ever had anyone in Buffalo actually (or obviously) try to prevent me from merging into an adjacent lane.I've also been to San Jose a number of times for conferences and -- since many of the drivers there are probably out-of-towners as well -- everyone does seem to give everyone else some space. I would guess that the bad Orlando score is the result of a bunch of confused tourists mixing in with a bunch of frustrated locals. But anyway... I think that if everyone just relaxed a little bit, didn't blame other drivers for their own poor planning (ie. not allowing enough time to reach a destination), and just generally cooperated more on the roads... everyone would benefit.

Hmmm...."57 - Honolulu, HI - C"I figured we'd be much higher on that 'worst' list, but then thought the only thing that would make us higher, if not #1 on the "worst" list is if all the bad drivers had SNOW to drive in here...O...M....G...........

If I remember right, there's another state with a city named Honolulu. Just like there's an Aloha, Oregon. So I guess they have to be specific.
