Replacing license plate bulbs How to...

Post by ychartra »

Need to know how to go about replacing license plate bulbs. one is burnt out. Really my question is how to removed the grey plastic cover on the inside of the liftgate. I don't want to break it. The owner's manual has no instructions for these bulbs.

Interesting this topic comes up now. I had to replace mine just two days ago. The instructions given are good, and I too had to use pliers to twist them loose. But, be careful as everything is plastic. The space is just too small to get a good grip with your hand and also rotate. I simply pried the door off and snapped it back in place when done; just be careful not to force anything or you could snap the clip.I replaced using Sylvania #168, which is what the computer said to use at the Advance Auto Parts store. Only had one out, but replaced both since they come in a two-pack.

thanks for the thread. I just replaced mine. it was a little bit of a pita. you need pliers. You got to love The Haynes Manual. it says. "remove bulb holders and replace bulbs" I used the righty tighty lefty loosey rule.

Quote, originally posted by VivaVibe ».......... Only had one out, but replaced both since they come in a two-pack.Wise advice, not because they come in a two pack but recognize that bulbs were put into the car at the same time, on the same day and most likely are the same brand out of the same box. They have burned for the same number of hours. One should recognize that if one side burns out, the corresponding bulb on the opposite side will soon burn out. As long as you have the tools out and the car ripped apart, for the extra $ and time required to replace the 2nd one, you'd be a fool not to. This applies to every bulb on the car. headlights, instruments, marker lights, etc. Especially the hard to get to, disassemble the car bulbs, such as cluster lights, replace them ALL!That was My advice of the day....Dave
