I wonder what happens when the people try to buy the Camry and not the Malibu? Thats quite the gamble to take.

Unless they're willing to sell the Camry as a used car, they could run in to problems since they'd effectively be using a Toyota product in a form of advertising without Toyota's approval.

That's a pretty good idea, so they can see how poorly built of a car you get for the premium price with the Camry.

With all due respect, price isn't likely to be a major issue in the decision. There's only about $1k difference between the two's MSRP.The Malibu will do well with buyers who prefer a V6. But, getting one will bump up the price of the Malibu a couple of grand above the Camry. Though still cheaper than the Camry with a V6.The base 4cyl of the Camry has more power than the Malibu, while getting the same fuel economy. The Camry may not be built as well as it used to be. That's not the question. Will buyers believe the salesman when he says it's not built as well as the Malibu.Styling is always a crap shoot. There's no accounting for taste.

they are probably relying on base features between the two. i don't know about the regular malibu, but the list of base features on a maxx is staggering.-edit-wow, i just looked up the pricing for the camrys, the XLE model starts at almost 30k!!!

In many areas a Toyota dealer also owns a Chevy dealership so in those situations he can just "borrow" a Camry.I think most of us are primarily concrned with long term reliability. My son's 2000 Impala with less than 40,000 miles is leaking antifreeze - not sure from where. I told him to buy the Toyota Rav4 when he bought his GMC Jimmy in 1996 - it was junk by 2000. I told him not to buy this Impala in 2000 just because he had a GM rebate and it was a couple thousand less than a Toyota. I think next time he will listen.

Intake Manifold is leaking, I'll guarantee it. Not a cheap fix, but don't continue to drive it like that, it will ruin the lower end of the engine if too much water sits in the oil. It will rust the main bearing, and eventually the engine will 'spin' one, then the engine is TOAST!Sorry about that OT Reply, please return to the regulary scheduled topic.

So movin to a more expansive car company will solve his car probs...not likely.cars are junk they are made to break.always have broke and always will..if he likes GM cars let him buy them..I thought if i got a toyota car it would solve my probs....nope just moved it to a more expansive repair bill.(more $$ for parts).my new sayin is based off that counrty song"save a GM worker buy a chevy" support your own workers.

May 24, 2007 Car buyers perusing their local Chevrolet showroom this fall may come upon a surprising find: a Toyota Camry. General Motors Corp. is mounting an in-your-face challenge to rival Toyota Motor Corp., with plans to encourage consumers to compare the Camry – America 's best-selling car for most of the last decade – to the remodeled Chevy Malibu. GM is urging dealers to place Camrys in Chevy showrooms across the nation. The automaker also intends to go on the road with both sedans and encourage the public to take a ride in each. The made-over Malibu goes on sale this fall, and GM is counting on the dramatic redesign to boost its share of the crucial midsize sedan segment. "The fact is, when you look at the hard data, we have a product that is not only every bit as competitive, but also beats out the competition," GM sales Chief Mark LaNeve said Wednesday. "We want people to have the experience of both vehicles. And we think that can help us."
