Griffith Park Fire

Post by Psychobroker »

I didn't see another post about this, so I feel compelled to.Griffith Park, one of the largest urban parks in North America (4,210 acrea) and one of L.A.'s GREATEST landmarks, is going up in smoke as I type this. Since 1pm PST yesterday, 600 acres have burned, all because some ******* tossed his cig in the bushes while golfing. Sure, he tried to put it out, and got severely burned. Perhaps he shouldn't have done it in the first place? @!$%%!! This really hurts me, as I remember growing up and going to Griffith Park, the observatory, the LA Zoo...all that is still threatened today.Link to msnbc story: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18562491/Here's a lovely pic from GP - downtown L.A. is on the right. And last night from behind the Griffith Observatory:Reports of progress are coming in, but winds have also picked up.

Heard bout havent seen anything... but HOLY ( ___ ) that is a crazy fire... but that pic is beautiful (in a photography way)Its sad that people dont care and throw cigs out the windows and flick them... then they see this happen, and still do it.I hope they can save as much as possible.ive never been there, but may look into it if they can save it.

Sure, I hate cig smoke, but as long as they !@#$% use an ashtray and NOT hang the cig out of the window - polluting MY car directly to spare their own -- than I don't care.Burn down one of the greatest parks in the U.S.?? Hell no!

It will grow back. Bound to happen sooner or later. Natures way of getting rid of the garbage. It happened to Yellowstone a couple years ago. It's growing back more beautiful than before.
