Is it better to have one crossbar on the back of the rack and one on the front of the roof, or can you do fine with both crossbars on the rack (the way i would like to do it)? i dont want to put a crossbar onto my roof..... gotta figure this one out quick! thanks

I've just used the two crossbars (GM Utility Bars) on the rack, but I also tie down the kayak with bow and sternlines in addition to the straps across the top. Haven't had any problems, but putting one of the crossbars forward on the roof gives better support, especially if the kayak is long, and lets you position it so there's less overhang past the rear of the car.
just ordered a thule setup to go on the factory rack, will carry two boats, which i also ordered...... wooo hooo

Just though I'd share a photo of 5 kayaks the rack on my Vibe GT. I've had up to 6 kayaks at one.I use a front crossbar on the roof and a crossbar mounted on the factory rack.
