Cleaning the Dash..

Hello!!How do you go about fixing Scratches in the Dashboard? Some of them are kinda deep but I would like to remove them...What would you recommend for just cleaning scuffs on the Dashboard...(My Girlfriend likes to put her feet up on the dashboard and her shoes scuff it up)

You can get a dash cover,not sure where to get one,but that will give your G/F something soft to put her feet on and cover the scratches.

seems like it ought to be said:accidents are never planned (or they wouldn't be accidents). think about what would happen to your girlfriend if the aribag went off while her feet were up on the dash.

I do agree with you guys that it would be bad if something happened... HOWEVER, the point of the topic was not how the scratches got there, but how to remove them. I have one where my radio scratched my dash while I was installing my AUX port. I have been thinking of ways but am scared to try any of themI did used to have a motorcycle with a leather seat, that had the same "pattern" as the dash. For the tear in that, you could buy a kit. After patching the tear, you put this paste on it, and it has different textured pices of cloth or plastic you put on over the paste. Then you heat it up with an iron or a lighter, and it melted the past to the texture. Then you pull the plastic off, it leaves the paste looking just like the area around it.... until I had to paint it, lol.... matching the paint was the hard part.Kinda like this setup...... http://www.halfords.com/webapp...31336

I have been using dashmatts for over twenty years, they keep the plastic from drying up and cracking, they also greatly reduce the plastic vapor film that accumulates on the windshield. You can also velcro stuff anywhere you want on them. Or you can tell your GF to "get yer fricken feet off my dash". Guess the dashmatt would be a safer choice.http://www.godashmat.com/dashm...hr0PA

It is tough to know what would work on that plastic. I have melted a couple of scratches to a tolerable level in the trim in the cargo area, but I wouldn't try that on the dash. I don't know what it is about that plastic. In my car, if I got a scratch in the dash, I'd probably just live with it, but again, that doesn't help or answer your question. I wonder if someone at a auto detailer business, or perhaps a dealer's service department might have a person who really knows their stuff and knows a special trick for such things.

Somebody recommended trying a gray Crayola crayon to fill in some of the scratches to diminish their appearance. I have not gotten around to doing this, but I would recommend Crayola and not the super-cheap crayons because the wax they use is very different. Like I said, I have not tried it as of yet, but it would not be permanent if you gave it a shot.

Wow, I never thought of that, but it's a great idea... I will try it tonight on mine. Since my scratch is almost out of view it's a good place to try it. Maybe I will try it where the dash and the door meet, so if it doesn't work right the only way to tell is open the door.Thanks for the idea (even if I didn't ask the question.)
