Coolant Loss

Post by 04BlkVibe »

Alright,..I know there is postings out there about coolant loss. I was wondering if anyone on this site actually kept a good eye on it. Would you know what's a reasonable amount of coolant loss?

I kept a very close eye on mine by marking the level in the resevoir after it was completly cool. It took a long time to figure out where my seapage was coming from but finally it was apparent that the water pump shaft had a very small leak. Here is a link to that discussion.http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=23818

I'd get a uses oil analysis done asap. If coolant is getting into your oil, and can do a lot of damage, in little time.

Or you can just check the oil and see if its turned intoa creamy white substance, thats what happends when coolant mixes with oil. Then you know somethins wrong!Quote, originally posted by MarkM04 »I'd get a uses oil analysis done asap. If coolant is getting into your oil, and can do a lot of damage, in little time.

Check MatrixOwners site. I saw something on this and it involved a bad Thermostat that was leaking coolant vapors.

Mine in the 1st year(12k) the level went down when cold about 1.5" . This was about 6oz. I figure it's from the res. being right behind the radiator. The heat will cause some evaporation. Any car with the reservoir by a heat source will go down some. Just nothing you would notice day to day. I also always smell coolant right at the radiator cap with my nose inches away. These us an odd inside cap design . I replaced the cap and still smell it when hot. But no sign of leaks.
