go to Chevrolet.com home page, you will see the new Chevrolet Aveo:http://chevrolet.com/fullthrottle/coming early 2004, it is a Daewoo Lano underneath, Suzuki also makes one.1.6 DOHC 105hpI thought some of you might be interested, especially those using gm points. If this car is priced about the same as the Daewoo, about $10,000, within a year, it would have a big rebate, and with a $3500 gm point and may be some kind of promotion (2 yrs ago I went to a GM demonstration, and got a $1000 coupon), the car can definetely come in less than $5000. may be $3500 if we are lucky.

This is just my personal opinion here, I don't like it. Looks like it will be smaller than the Vibe and not as sleek looking. I wonder how it will do on the market.

I thought it was interesting, because Aveo is a Korean/Japanese car sold by GM, just like the Vibe.It was the main readon I bought the Vibe, because of Toyota reliability. not sure how reliable the Daewoo / Suzuki are though.is Daewoo still around in U.S. ?I found out that it is also a Suzuki Swift. don't know where Aveo will be built though.

It has been remplaced by the Aerio (it remplaced both, Swift and Esteem). But Suzuki will put back the Swift on the market as a 2004 model.
Don't forget the plague on humanity that was known as the Ford Aspire, either. Not to sound like Don King or anything, but from the front view, it looks like a funkified, midgetized, Corolla. From the back, the 5-door is a reworked Festiva. And they dare call this a "sporty" car. It looks really cheap, I can't believe they have the audacity to ask $10,000 for it. For under $9000, you can get a Kia, and I'm sure the build quality and reliabiliy is no better. Hyundai has some cheap utilitarian cars, and at least you get a 10 year 100,000 mile standard powertrain warranty on it. I wouldn't buy this thing. And check out the Equinox. That one looks a little more interesting. Might be an Aztek with a different body on it? They are advertising the Vortec 3800 V6 engine in it. Certainly appears to be based on the Aztek platform.P.S.--To the best of my knowledge, Daewoo is still selling cars here, unfortunately. And the Suzuki Swift was the twin of the infamous Geo Metro. This reminds me, when the fuel economy (in MPG) rating and horsepower output of a car are too close together, I'll happily pass on buying the car.

$10,000 was just my guess. this car is also a rebadged Suzuki Swift. so it is a Chevy Aveo / suziki Swift / Daewoo Lano triplet.and Chevy Equinox is a Saturn Vue twin.

Yeah Daewoo is still selling in the US. The deal with them is that most insurance comapnies don't want to insure them because they aren't built very well and pretty much get totalled in any kind of accident no matter the speed.
Won't you please be...my neighbor?Hello neighborKevin
no i wouldnt think so but for some with less economic cars presently....it could be a real cheap car and cheap to run....at 10grand could be a decent first car for many too.-Phil

"This reminds me, when the fuel economy (in MPG) rating and horsepower output of a car are too close together, I'll happily pass on buying the car." That's a terrific observation, Stang2Vibe! I drove a 3 cylinder Pontiac Firefly(Suzuki/Metro) for 16 years, and scrapped it just 3 months ago when I bought my Vibe. It never occured to me, but you are absolutely correct: It had 55 HP and got 55 to 60 MP(Imperial)G! I never would have chosen it as a fun car (got it for my son while he was away at college and got it back when he bought a real car), but over the 362,000 km (225,000 mi.) we drove it, I figure we saved around $30,000 on fuel versus a full size pick up or SUV, such as most of the other on my daily commute seem to favor... PS: My "real car" is a 495 c.i. aluminum big block 1970 Camaro. Each cylinder is bigger than the Fly's entire engine, and (no coincidence) it gets about 1/8 the mileage...
but if the car does sell for about $10,000, invoice should be $9000, I got my Vibe for $1200 under invoice, so let's say after a year, we get the Aveo for $1000 under invoice. factory rebate of $2000, when the car show comes around in my area (LA auto show) there is always a $500 extra rebate (I heard there is a $500 rebate now for Chicago auto show) in the 2 weeks following the car show. there is now a $450 Upromise money right now.and you get the max $3,500 on GM points$9,000 (invoice) - $1000 (under invoice) -$2000 (factory rebate) - $500 (auto show) - $450 (upromise) - $3,500 (GM Card) = $2,600.I rather drive a Suzuki / Daewoo than Cavalier / Sunbird$2,600 is cheaper than your average John Deere lawn mower.

there is now an extra $1000 rebate on GMs. so if Aveo is available now, it would be $1600 + tax/licenses. lf you look at my post above.

yea, it is just my wishful conquest of trying to find a lowest priced car.most likely, all promotion would end by the time the Aveo ships.but some time if you are lucky!! a friend of mine just bought a new 2002 Chevy Prizm (Toyota Corolla built by NUMMI), it was an ad car, advertising for $9,999 (retail was around $14,000). He used the GM card rebate of $3,500, GM $500 lease loyalty rebate, and the upromise $450. so basically he got a brand new Corolla (although the discountinued model) for $5,550. not bad at all. he acutally could get additional $250 GM coupon (buy it on Ebay for $35) to get even more discount.

LOL! That place is funny. Especially the guy who thinks his Echo can beat a WRX. He needs to get in touch with reality. "The Echo is a great sports car." LOL! Too funny!
"Excuse me, but I'll have what he is having."My goodness. He must have been racing that 1979 WRX or something (never existed)! Either that or he has a really active imagination.I especially like the response from one person with the "B.S." flag raising up. That was great!

Saw an aveo at the mall tonight...couldn't do anything but shake my head in confusion and sympathy. wanted to gather 3 others to see if we could pick it up, but decided against it.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
The Aveo is so tiny in person. Its like one of those clown cars you see at the circus, especially if it has a few people in it! I suppose its decent basic transportation, but thats really all it is. If someone is looking to buy a new car at that price point, they cannot be picky on how it looks or drives. I just don't see how anyone is better off buying a new car built as cheap as possible, that will be worthless in 3 years is a better idea than a decent used car thats got low miles and is just a couple years old. Sure it has a warranty for repair work, but depreciation will own that thing, and if its always in the shop what good is it?The Equinox has a 3400 V6 based losely on the current GM 60 degree engines (such as the 3100 in the Buick Century, 3400 in the Grand Am and minivans, etc). Except, this version is being built in China and imported! But it looks like a rather nice SUV/Minivan/Crossover whatever. It doesn't look bad at all in person. Not great either, but really, how many vehicles it will compete with look great? (Ford Escape, Jeep Liberty etc)
saw an ad for Enterprise car rental, they are now offering Aveo as the low end compact car.raging, I hope you and your three friends have been working out, the aveo curb weight is ~ 2400 lbs,
Just so we're clear... The Chevrolet Aveo and the Suzuki Aerio SX are on the same platform. Just like the Chevrolet Metro and Tracker the Aveo is made by Suzuki for GM. Any connection with Daewoo would be second-hand from it's parent company (GM bought Daewoo out of bankruptcy a couple of years ago).

Appearantly i have been mistaken. My Apologies. I was not aware that Suzuki had started buying cars from GM (daewoo). I guess it makes sense though. GM wouldn't have bothered buying out Daewoo if they didn't plan on using anything.
