Adding cruise, power windows and locks? Anyone done this?

Post by Billdog350 »

This is my first post on the forum, we just picked up a 2003 Vibe yesterday and while we got it for a great deal the downside was no cruise control, power locks or windows. The locks aren't an issue since we can get those installed with an alarm, keyless entry, and remote start for around $600 out the door. However the windows and cruise are more complicated. I'm quite mechanical, I have done camshaft installs, clutches, entire motor swaps, stereo installs, etc. Has anyone looked into adding these things aftermarket or with OEM parts and what is the cost/time involved? I know the 2005+ models just need a cruise stalk to be installed for $125 and the cruise will work...but the old ones need all the servos and such.Same with power windows...are they prewired and just need the motor to be added or is it much more complicated?

the cruise I think is easy, its just that cruise stick and you have to install it. but power windows/locks that is a big job. ill look for that cruise, but if you search theres a diy here.

Thanks everyone for help, suggestions, and search results.Looks like there is a kit on ebay that does power windows, power locks and remote start for $225...but it looks a little shady, esp the "easy installation" part. There are several other products and vendors I have found in addition to the ones suggested here. Commando (I don't know if they're name brand or not) has a remote start unit for $80 that will interface with their $45 4 door power lock kit. Circuit City wants $500-600 for the parts and install....obviously 80% of the price is the labor. Now I need to figure out if this is something I want to tackle on my own or just pay someone to do.Thanks again for all of the help!
