I have a 20H.P. V-twin Briggs and Straton lawn tractor. I would like to use synthetic oil. The manufacturer recommends SAE 30 dino. I was thinking of using 5W30 or 10W30 Pennzoil Platinum. I've used PZ Plat in most of my cars. Any comments or suggestions?

0W-30, 5W-30 and 10W-30 are the same thickness at 212F (operating temp) as straight 30 weight. The multi-vis oils will flow or circulate much better when the engine is cold (most wear occurs) than the single weight oil.
Being a Power Equip. Specialist for a few years I can say just keep the B&S using the SAE30 oil. The only small engines I would use synthetics or other oils for are the Kohlers. B&S engines work best with SAE30. Typically I drain the oil each season end and in the beginning change the filter and add oil.If you want a good oil for small engines. Look into Echo lawn equipment. They sell a synthetic type of oil designed for those OHV's and it works the best and runs the cleanest.
