SRI on for a month and I'm ditching it

Post by Whelan »

For me I guess its a couple of things, but I am kinda tired of it suddenly. Here are my reasons:-The noise is good but it makes you want to go faster = more gas used. Not a good thing when I have $$$ to save for a ring.-It never quite fit like I wanted it to, I don'd like the idea of using zip ties to hold other components in place, or vacuum caps.-The car seems to run smoother without it.Granted I bought one from Ebay which is something I don't usually do with these things, but I gave it a try and figured I will go back to stock and when that filter needs a change, throw in a K&N drop in. One thing I will do when I switch back is to not connect the last part of piping that runs like a snake through the front fender to the front and bends in all crazy ways. This shouldnt hurt the car, if anything help it a little more since it wont have such a maze to travel through.

That didn't last long. lol. By keeping the snorkel off your stock airbox you will get a similar sound to the SRI. It still may not run as smooth wit hit on though, but it will be better than the SRI. You should get some low end torque back as well.Oh, and get a K&N drop in for better flow as well.

lol I knew you were gonna be the first to respond to this one. Ha. Well I guess I am getting old, lol. My Civic had all the fun toys, the Apexi World Sport II catback exhaust, AEM cai, Revo short shifter. Man that was fun to drive. But it was also standard so you could play with it more, i.e. hold a gear till you got under an overpass and nailed it. The exhaust sounded incredible over 4k. But I just want quiet so I can listen to my ipod, lol. Not to mention I feel like I have lost some top end. Like 80-100 is lagging, but from the start its better. Sacrifices I guess.

When I first put my SRI on I was always on the gas. Now I've gotten used to it and just drive normally and don't really even notice the sound of it anymore. How long have you had it on? If it hasn't been too long I say give it a chance. You're gas mileage may have gone down also because it's winter. *edit* I just read in the title you had it on for a month. Definitely give it more time.

I've had them on my last two cars, but I dunno, I just am not as into it as I was I guess. I would rather have the car looking showroom clean than having the sound and whatever benefits I get.

Fair enough, There is certainly something to be said about a clean car as well.

I am big on detailing cars, I do it on the side during the summer and this year will be someones sponsor by Meguiar's (only use 100% Megs stuff). My buddy's 67 Camaro SS is going to be trailered to shows so I am on his board and going to some of these events with him. Should be good especially locally for getting $$$ from those people for their classics.http://www.meguiarsonline.com

LOL so I was tellin my girl about the savings Im trying to come up with. Now get this. She never really minded me working on my car and dropping stuff in it, but she did want me to lay off a bit cause I was spending $$$ on my last two cars. So from the woman who wants me to settle down and save she goes "you like that thing why would you get rid of it, I drive a Jeep and get *** for mileage compared to you, just leave it on." I smiled at her, then said, "so I found a good exhaust system" She looked and said "don't push it" lol.Anyways, looks like it will stay a bit longer.Side note, today after all the rain and flooding (I drove through about 5 lakes today and endless huge huge puddles) to work, my car seems like it is idling a lot smoother and running better with the intake on. I think my car has a personality and hear me talkin about getting rid of the intake so it started to behave, lol. My civic used to get mad at me when I wouldnt put somethin on her. Each month it was something else no matter how small, lol.
