will this work???

Post by audiovibe »

Well I bought some wheels off my buddy thinking the tire was the right size (oops) the tires are 215 35 18 instead of the standard of what people are running. Ive been searching and cant find anything on the topic, I just curious if this could cause any damage to the car. I average 9000 miles a year and looked at the tire calculator http://www.miata.net/cgi-bin/tirescgiI did some math and based on 9000 miles it will add roughly 334 miles to my car each year. If that is all it will happen I can live with that. The tires are nitto neo gens and only have 2500-3000 miles on them and I got the wheels at a great price so I really dont wnat to buy new wheels. anyway I know there are some tire guys on here so just let me know how this size will workThanks Aron

I dont like running anything more the 1.5-2% different then oem when doing a + size rim and tire combo. The closer you can get to oem the better. For what it's worth to save a few bucks now you can do a lot damage and it can be a problem. ABS, speedo, tranny gearing, odometer and a bunch more are affected by the tire being a certain overall diameter, if you increase or decrease that diameter (by what seems small to you) bad things can happen. And you dont have to get new wheels just new tires... unless you just bought tires... it's kind of unclear if you only bought the Nittos or you got rims too.Rolling with a 215/40R18 is only .4% different. Keep the wheels, sell those tires and get some of these, and would be the way i would go IMHO.
