2008 EPA Estimates

All these people who pimp their high mileage stuff can't really do that anymore. They can't say a Corolla gets over 40 MPG, now it's 37 which is what the Yaris gets, although the Yaris does get higher city mileage. The Prius lost bigtime, it went from 60/51 to 48/45 city/highway. GM can't brag about the number of cars they have that get >30 MPG, good thing they got that ad campaign out of their system last year. Yet while many little cars really got dinged, something like a 4wd Suburban with the largest engine available (6L) only dropped to to 13/18 from 14/18. And yow, a Titan running E85 gets 9 MPG city/12 highway! Interesting!

I guess I have been extremely lucky then to have an actual 35.8 mpg average over 130,000 miles so far

I don't drive like anyone else on this site. So I don't get more than 35mpg. I also do not get less than 20 mpg. But when I see the new EPA estimates 2006 base/autoNew: 25 city / 31 hwy, 27 combinedOld: 29/34, 31 combinedThat DOES make more sense to me.

i kinda like the new #'s better, the city is more realistic in my case. my highway milage varries a bit, depending on traffic and how much i'm on and off the gas, if i can set the cruise at 70 and only pass 2 or 3 times (trip between home and school is 120 miles/ 2hrs) it is possible to get 40 mpg.my overall avg for 14k miles is about 28.3, i spend most of my time driving right around campus doin 40mph

The old numbers are spot on for my 04 base auto; driving about 70% city/30% highway; I'm averaging 30MPG with conservative habits. But, I'm in FL with no snow, mostly warm weather, and flat terrain. I've not yet taken a real road trip to get a true highway figure.

Personally i think it depends on how the cars are driven overall...
