Unichip Installed!

Post by tcam »

I just got the unichip installed tonight, but my parents won't let me go out and drive it cuz it's too late. lol. I can't even sleep tho I'm so anxious. When I installed it, I got really hung up on the PnP harness cuz I had at first mounted it upside down. lol. and none of the plugs matched up to the ECU's. But after an hour of resting and thinking about it I realized that had been the problem and then just finished off the install. Should've taken 40 minutes, but it ended up being like 3 to 4 hours I will give updates tomorrow. One question though. when I plug in the Unichip module, i still have a little plug directly next to the 24-point plug that is just sitting there unused. Shouldn't this be connected up to something??

Congrats! 3-4 hours, huh? lol.The little plug is for the additional S/C Harness for the base Vibe.

And early this morning it was reaining really hard, and every time I'd try to hit lift, my tires would just start to spin. even though I was going like 40mph already. lol. But when it dried up, I tested it out a few times 0-80mph or so, and it pulls sooooo much better. I can't wait to get it tuned and run it on the "B" mode.

But, would u say it's fine to go ahead and run it even though the Unichip isn't quite excatly mapped for my mods? I use premium fuel all the time anyways.

what else do you have?and running the B map won't hurt anything. you just won't get the full power/torque without having it mapped for everything you have on the car.

I was just worried cuz in the install sheet it said that running "B" map when it is not properly tuned greatly increases the risk of detonation lol.I currently have SR Intake, Ported Header, Cat-Back Exhaust, Ignition Amplifier, Hyper Ground Wires, and soon to be Ported Throttle Body with Port Matched Intake Manifold.

i doubt you have too much to worry about, it you're not sure, just stick with map A for now til you get the chip tuned with your new mods.this is where i am happy i have a way to change maps at will, send data logs and have it retuned by email.

i think i'm going to drive down to Seattle and Portland over Memorial weekend to get the car dyno-tuned. then i can be a little more sure it won't blow up. i'd just rather be safe than sorry if you know what i mean.

unless you want me to drive by myself down... than yes..but anyways, Tcam, if you have alot more mods than the chip is programmed for, i would recommend that you get it reprogrammed. we've seen too many cars go boom without proper EM. don't know how much on an NA car, but the turbo's it's pretty bad. that's why i think it'd be better to take the trip...

I'm currently running mapB and not getting any CEL's either. I think it's pretty darn close to being properly tuned for my car as of now.

oh ok. i was thinking the headers and what not hadn't been tuned for yet. so if it's just the ground wires... um ya. you're good to go.
