most Auto Parts stores such as AutoZone will read the code for you.

Shouldn't the dealer do it for free? It should still be under warantee, unless the 30,000 miles has been exceeded. That would take aloooot of driving.

Since it's under warranty, the dealer is going to handle it no matter what it is. Bring it in and just tell 'em to call when the problem is fixed. It occurs to me that these cars are notorious for CEL lights. Mine has been on since the day I bought it (used) and it's always emissions codes (0440, 0446). That would be the one thing I caution prospective buyers on the Vibe: it comes with a CEL. I love the Pontiac, but could do without the Toyota engineering.
I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code

Check your gas cap... if its loose, it probably set a code. tighten the cap and the light will clear once its relearned its holding pressure in the fuel tank. Otherwise take it to a dealership, they know your car better then joey's garage.

CELs are usually for some emissions thing, a lot of people don't care about controlling emissions, but CELs can also be related to other things which could affect the performance or lifespan of the engine. Unless it was an offer I couldn't refuse, I wouldn't buy a car that came with a CEL. I'd assume that the owner either didn't maintain the car, or knew there was a big problem and was dumping on the buyer.and trueimage, check the gas cap as Mav said, it might not make the thing go away right away, or take it to a place that can read and reset the code. If it takes a repair to fix it, let us know what the problem and fix was.

Thanks for the tips. I will check the gas cap and if it doesn''t go off by next friday then I will bring it to the dealership, I'm almost at my 6 month service anyway.Any danger in waiting that long (I will only drive 10km or less in that time frame)PS - yes it's under warranty, I'm still at 3500 km, we don't drive much since we both work 11-13 hours a day mon-thurs (and don't drive to work ever)

The same thing happened to my wife last year with her brand new Kia. She went stomping into the dealer wanting to know what was wrong w/ her brand new car. The tech showed her the loose gas cap, she felt stupid. You're not alone.
