When we purchased our vibe I asked the salesman if the Daytime Running Lights could be shut off while sitting still in Park. I have looked in the manual and it says if the vehicle has the E-Brake on the DRL will not come on but I cannot seem to figure it out . I guess to some this is no big deal but when I go to the Gym in the morning I usually sit and wait for the doors to open along with the other members and now that it is cold I need the car to stay running for the heat and I can see the person in the car in front of me getting blinded because I cannot shut these lights off HELP!!!!!!!
There are ways to do this but it involves adding a switch somewhere around the DRL module. This should help http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=8598 BTW, Welcome to Genvibe!
First thing's first... Welcome aboard! Onto the DRL: Is yours a manual or automatic? If it's a stick, you're out of luck as they will be on regardless of where the parking brake is. If it's an automatic, you must set the parking brake before turning on the ignition. The DRL's wont be on (nor will the automatic light control) at that point when you start the engine. Now, if you've been driving, when you park and leave the engine running, setting the parking brake will kill neither the DRL's or the automatic light control. If you want to idle with the DRL or auto light control off once you get to where you're going, only choice would be to shut off the engine, set the brake, then start the engine.Of course, there is a mod that you can do to add a switch to kill the DRL's and automatic light control both, or a switch that will just kill the automatic lights alone but leave the DRL's.

my vibe is auto and i've read about setting the e-brake and it turns the DRL's off. because i have to park on a slight incline i set the e-brake before i let off the brake so when i shift outta park i wont mess up my trans. but i digress, the parking brake is always applied before i start the car and the lights always turn on when it starts. does the light selector need to be in a certain spot?
What year is yours? I haven't heard of cars with the automatic doing that... Perhaps Toyota had to change something in the DRL module for a period of time and the new module doesn't allow for the stuff to be disabled. Or something is just broke! I dunno, that's weird. If you're still under warranty, take it in along with your owner's manual and make them read about how to disable the DRL with the parking brake and then go demonstrate how it doesn't work. Of course then they can always say "uh, well, stuff in the owner's manual is subject to change, so here - let's just put some of this white out on the disable DRL section of your owner's manual." Way too strange. Bigmike88, is yours an auto as well, and what year is it?

Welcome to Genvibe! Is it dark when you get to the gym? If so, then it's not your DRL, it's the Auto Headlight control switching on. You need to modify the circuit to disable it. Ano_Vibe posted a link to the info you need. It doesn't look too difficult.
welcome!I have an 06 auto and regardless of the handbrake the headlights or the drls were always on. I couldn't shut them off using the hand brake. The only way I got around this was to cut pin 12 to disable the drl's and the auto lights. by doing that you would have to use the lights manually i.e. they won't come on automaticly anymore

I did the above with a snap in connector, took me 5 minutes to do. I also did the foglight mod so I can have my fogs on with my park lights only and not just the headlights. Very useful and not hard to do.
