I am trying to add a Bazooka Powered Subwoofer to my Pontiac 2003 Vibe GT with the 200 watt premium sound system and single disc changer. It is the 8" EL8A I am trying to add. I need some information on the amplifier pinout configuration. The amp has a Toyota P/N - 86280-01010 and it is a model number 12216199. Other markings on the amp are DE and it was assembled in Mexico. Has anyone had any luck installing one of these? Does anyone know the pinout setup on the harness on the amp? Or has anyone used an alternate method of installation to get signals to the Bazooka? I don't really want to pull the door panels off to get to the speaker leads. Thanks for your help! Mike
I did exactly the same thing, except I have the 6 dish changer. Instead of taking the dash apart for the leads, I used wire taps on the speaker leads from the amp installed under the front passenger seat. I used the wiring as labelled in this post:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=1042And it works pretty good. Good luck!
According to what I saw in the link you supplied, these are the same colors that come off the back of the deck. This according to a post from a guy with a Vibe/Matrix who supplied colors for the wires off the back of the deck (HU) and he is also a licensed dealer for Bazooka. The colors jive. He also added that these are high "level" inputs TO the amp from the HU as opposed to high "power" outputs FROM the amp.So I will go with this for wiring the speaker inputs to the Bazooka. How did you make out with the power supply from the battery and remote turn-on? And how is the sound? Are your factory door speakers still in, or did you change them? My Moon & Tunes package factory speakers are not what I would call premium. Paper cones/foam surround with whizzer cones - 2 ohm speakers with Toyota stamped on the magnet. I am also upgrading those with Sony and Pioneer 6.5" replacements!I think the amp is OK. I might consider changing the head unit after I appraise the new speakers with the Bazooka. And if I win the lottery, I might even upgrade the amp!I don't want to enter any competitions - I just enjoy good sound and it seems my ears have become somewhat discriminating - I have a killer home theater system in the den and another killer surround sound system for my PC in the bedrom that is also integrated into the digital cable/TV setup in the bedroom. Hooked on sub-woofers - that's me!
I tapped the wires going into the amp in the moons & tunes for my high end input, but now that I have my head unit installed, I use the RCA's to connect, it offers better sound clarity.

For the power supply, I ran a 12 gauge wire straight from the battery (I used the existing wire harness grommet) to the Bazooka (and EL-8 is only 100 watts). For the remote I also utilized the under seat amp, I tested some of the leads going TO the amp and found a suitable source for the remote. Off the top of my head I can't remember exactly which wire it was (one of the black ones I believe) I would have to pull the seat off to check it. But it's easy to find one with a multitester.I kept everything else stock, i.e. speakers etc. As far as sound quality, it's plenty good enuff for me. I'm sure there will be those who disagree, but I find the stock setup sounds good, especially since most of the bass is handled by the sub (set at -3 on the HU), leaving the stock paper stuff to handle mids and highs, which pretty much is all that they are good for.Of course, if you're used to the hi-fi stuff, you might want to upgrade....
Thanks for the reply!I have my game plan complete now, with all the help and advice I have received here and on the other site (MatrixVibe.net). It is on for this Saturday. I might bring the digital camera home from work and snap some photos of the install to post here.I am going with speaker upgrades in the doors - 6.5" front and back - Pioneer 2 way in front and Sony 3 way in back - a little more punch and definition to low-mids and extra crispy all around, with the bottom end chores being handled by the Bazooka. Should be enough for me! Those four speakers are readily available almost anywhere for around 100 bucks for all four! I already have the Sony 3 way speakers and the Bazooka and I will pick up the Pioneer speakers tomorrow. The Bazoka was ~ $135 at Circuit City. The Sony Xplod 3 ways were $55, and the Pioneers will run me $40. My logic with the 2 way in front is the shallow depth of the Pioneers and the fact that the factory tweeters will stay and they sound pretty good and their location adds a nice spatial effect. Then instead of Moon and Tunes, it will be Moon & Lunar Tunes - out of this world - at least for my budget.I am going to mount the tube in the middle near the back hatch and use the straps that came with the tube in conjunction with the straps that came with the car. That way, I can easily yank it if I need to haul something - just tuck the Bazooka harness and leads down out of the way.I have been following the thread (here in this forum) about the factory HU controlling the air bags, so I will let that drama play out. The factory HU seems to be OK. Don't want to lose the air bags!I also considered XM radio, but it is cost prohibitive up front (I would need the tuner @ $130, the adapter @ $70, and the FM modulator @ $50), then the subscription @ $10/Mo., and I would have to try to figure out how to run the antenna wire and where to mount it. I can burn a lot of CD's for that much money - the factory HU plays the burned CDs just fine.I will wait for the XM service to come down a bit. Mardi Gras is almost here, and summer is fast approaching, so it is time to get ready for a few ROAD TRIPS IN THE VIBE, DUDE!Dawg (AKA Mike)
