Well I had to change my AC air filter yesterday (by the way you all should check it if you are close to 15000miles or have many trees where you live). I called my pontiac dealer for pricing and they want to charge me $57 so I decide to call a toyota dealer asking for the matrix air filter for the AX and they tell me the filter would be $27.So i drive over and purchase both the engine bay air filer (pontiac $22 toyota $17) and the AC air filter. To much of my suprise the AC filter is not the same. So now am trying to find it somewhere else that is not the dealer. If anyone has changed their already or found out a cheaper place please let me know.

yea they are different. I went and I purchased it from the toyota dealer and had to go back cause it was half an inch bigger than the Vibe one. The engine bay one is the same for both the matrix and the vibe

The filter is rectangular (if I remember correctly) so it would only go in one direction. Also, did you compare the one you bought from the Toyota dealer to the one that was installed from the factory? What about part numbers? If you don't have to order one from a Pontiac dealer, I would go in and see if you can compare them (old one with new one) before you buy just to be sure.
I did compare them, the service guy, my girlfriend's brother, the service manager, etc. unless they had the wrong part number in the computer but then it would be a major problem. Trust me I did everything, even asked them if they had anything compared to what I had

wish i had a digital cam to take the pic, its super easy to take outthe filter doesnt have a toyota part number on it, it has so many numbers that i dont know which is the part number, the toyota part number they were selling me was 88568-02020. I tried going to Delphi to see if i could find the air filter but no luck. by the way delphi is the one the makes the air filter

quote:Man, that is something.. Delphi filter, and that is a long band on numbers. God, gm part numbers are usually only 8 digits.Unless, thr TY code is for toyota? hmmm. Possibly. I bet this part is a little hard to obtain or obtain correctly since replacement has probably not been a issue since the vehicle has only been out for a little over a year. I'm sure once more Vibes start to get up in the mileage, the filters will need to be replaced more often by the dealers.quote:LOL, Nick I was going to go out and take a look at it tomorrow when it got a little warmer, it is too fricken cold out today. Ya beat me to it.My Vibe is in the garage.. so it's a little more tolerable. My filter was pretty dirty, as you can see. Some light snow was in the filter as well as those "helicopters" from trees from this past fall. I may be due for a replacement in a few more months once my Vibe turns 1.
quote:Nick, is the material really thin paper?Wonder if you could try to wash it or something, an air hose would blow a whole in that for sure. I will go to the dealer tomorrow and do some searching. It's not too thin and could probably withstand a couple washes at least. I will probably try to clean it up a little once winter breaks and see how it holds out. Best to let it dry to completion as well before reinserting.
Delphi is the supplier for many of the HVAC components to the Vibe/Matrix.It can take a while for AC-Delco to come out with filters for Non-GM designs.Remember that the Vibe replacement parts are expensive because of the high cost of buying them from Toyota, repackaging and stocking in the GM system. Think Toyota really pulled one over on GM with this part of the NUMMI deal.AC-Delco interior air filters for the GM Vans run in the $50s range (iincludes 2 though).
quote:Delphi makes it, but not ACDelco---- man, what is GM doing.....The former AC Delco, along with many other GM parts plants (Inland, Delco Electronics, Delco Products, Delco Moraine, Delco Guide, etc.) were spun-off into "Delphi" several years ago. It is an independent company now.- Earl

Well your filter is way cleaner than mine is for one. I really think that the TY02116 has something to do with it cause the filter I brought had TY02117. To clear this up we need some that has a matrix to take their filter out and see what the hell is going on. NSimkins you think you can work your magic on doing that? For now Im driving without a filter. The manuel says it can be done without damage to your car but I rather get it back in as soon as possiable. Guess that those with the most miles on their car are going to be experiancing these types of things for the rest of the forum.
