GM pimpin' those trucks again!

Post by ColonelPanic »

I got an interesting mail from the General today... It contained a 3 page brochure - one for the Silverado/Avalanche, one for the Sierra and a small reference to the Acadia, and the back page had every other GM model listed from Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, GMC, Hummer , Pontiac, Saab, Saturn...$1,000 rebate for the Silverado/Sierra/Avalanche, and also $1,000 for the Acadia (hey, it says it gets 26 MPG, right on.) Every other GM model, Vibe included, has $500 rebate on it at the moment. Not sure if this is for everyone or just certain people, it's a "special offer" for me, but you know how that stuff goes. The new trucks are great - from someone like me who doesn't care for trucks. But man, it would have been nice if GM would have tried to sell people their other vehicles a bit more! Not sure why I got a mailer directed more toward trucks in the first place, given that I've never owned a GM truck. I guess that's where the moolah is!

The difference is that you can take 8 people in the Acadia! The Acadia does serve a purpose to families, and now has decent gas mileage. As for GM advertising the others, that is marketing.

Gas prices are collectively down to one of the lowest points in a couple of years. ($1.95 here in Omaha) And it is winter. You have to pimp the autos that sell well at this time. In a couple of months when it is warmer and gas again goes up to $3.00 the smaller and sportier cars will get the rebate nod again.

GM has a heckuva thing going if they have something that hauls 8 people AND gets 26 MPG, THAT'S what they need to spend some marketing dollars on, I don't think anyone else has a vehicle such as that... I just hate to see them put all their eggs into the truck/SUV basket again. Wasn't that a (rather large) contributing factor to the current state of the company? BUT it isn't entirely their fault, I'm sure the American car buying public contributes to this. The likes of Suzie Soccermom out there who will plop down $50K on a vehicle that's in reality 90% more excessive than what she will ever need or use doesn't really give anybody a reason to pursue smaller, more efficient, more cost effective, and more sensibile alternatives. Gas is down in price for sure, but it's not staying there. It isn't a matter of if it will go back up, but more a matter of when and by how much...

Standard retard economics. Sell a 4wd truck with a big V8 and mention the great fuel efficiency and $2000 rebate. Neglect to mention that that data was collected from the truck with 2wd and the base V6 engine with a 20mph tail wind traveling downhill. Wait for that individual to come back that summer wanting a trade in because the $80 a week in gas is too expensive. Sell him a slightly more fuel efficient crossover SUV and put the truck on the lot as a used car and wait for the next sucker to come in and buy it for $4000 more than he should have paid for it.

Are you familiar with how the EPA regulates their fuel economy testing?
