But in all the years that I have removed rotors, I have never had to remove any nuts that hold the rotor onto the axle. Just remove the front caliper. If the rotor will not come off by normal means, you will have to apply ABnormal means. That is, giving that rotor a serious beating with a hammer. If it STILL does not want to come off with a regular hammer and some penetrating oil around the hub area. Then I would suggest a BIGGER HAMMER. Eventually it WILL come off. Also, I'm assuming you are replacing the rotors along with the brake pads. Good Luck and may the force be with you

The base model Vibe (at least my 2004) has this "Axle Nut" which must be taken off in order to take the rotor off. Annoying design. FYI, the 12 point nut size is 30mm. You will need to pick up a 12pt 30mm axle nut socket. I was able to get mine at a local tool store.Bec
As I said, I have not replaced the front pads/rotors on my Vibe yet. But for the love of Vibe, I simply can't believe that the engineers of Toyota would design a brake system (ie. Rotor) that makes it MORE difficult for their technicians to work on. Or that they changed the design for some model years of the same platform. I've had 2 Corolla's in the past. And I replaced the rotors on each. Once I had to soak a rotor with lots of penetrating oil and wack the (removed) out of that rotor useing a BIG Mutha' Hammer, but I persuaded it to slip off.Our Vibes SHOULD be no different.

I have an 04 and the rotors came off with a little persuading.I didn't have to take the axle nut off to remove them. You must have some special kind of brakes or have a AWD model or something. Why don't you show some pics of the axle assy without the tire so we can have a look.

I have no idea why the design would be different... I just have the normal base model, front wheel drive only (not AWD) .. also it's a 5-speed (though that shouldn't make a difference I wouldn't think.)If I get the time (and the energy ) I'll take the tire back off and take a pic.Bec
