New House Today!!!!

Post by Vibr8tr »

Well, last week it was getting married, but that was enough for me this holiday season, so today I closed on my new house. I will get some pictures up later (since I am still at work and won't be there until later). It's a nice little 3 bedroom, 1636 Sq Ft, 2 car garage house. I know, with the $100,000 it just cost me, I could have got a REALLY nice setup for the Vibe.... but I think the Wife would be a little pissy having to live in the Vibe.... oh well.

I don't know what houses cost on the mainland, but over here the new ones START at over the half-million dollar range...it's crazy. I'm glad I bought in '94 before it got this bad, and it's going to take me years before I buy another.

Yeah, we are out in the counrty, that is the only way, even in Fayetteville you can't find anything for that price (at least not with what we wanted). I required a Garage and three bedrooms, and this had it. So we are happy. We will be moving all weekend, and hopefully in the next few weeks get the internet set up.I am sorry Joholste, I couldn't take the traffic up there, I had to move back here. But if ANY vibers ever want a place to meet, my doors are always open, and my fridge always has beer.

I bought a house in the country for the same reason, you get more for the money. I was able to get a house and 10 acres for half the price of a house in Virginia Beach or Norfolk (unless I wanted to move to the ghetto).

And shoot guns. I guess I could do that in the ghetto, just not legally!

Wow, congrats! We just finished up the same obstacle course -- closed on our new house early October, then got married November 19, and just returned from our Costa Rican honeymoon -- WOW, what an amazing country! As for the house, I can't believe how crazy expensive it is out in L.A. compared to other parts of the country. 1600 sq-ft house in L.A.? That'll cost you $500k+!

Yeah, I looked online and we are in one of the cheapest areas in the contry. I think parts of Ohio beat us, but that is mainly in Gas prices. But houses are cheap here as long as you aren't "in town". It's about a 30-40 mile drive for me to work, but it's all high way so it only takes about a half an hour.

Literally two streets over. I like being close to everything but I really enjoy going to my wife's parents (about 30min away) to hear the "quiet"

wow it looks like everyone on genvibe is in the house buying spirit. My wife and i closed on a condo up here in arlington on the 1st. 285K and the seller paid all closing costs. 2 bedroom, galley kitchen, all appliances including washer, dryer, and dishwasher. and we got a fire place. two days after we closed our lender sent an appraiser out to the property and our place appraised for 332K. Yay for instant equity. In march we should be able to refinance into a VA loan. the paperwork is what's getting us slowed up on that side.

Yeah, we were suppost to close on Nov. 30th, but after all was said and done, it was Dec 23. It was one thing after another with the paperwork. Most of the problems were cause of Contrywide (our morgage company) who I will NOT recommend to any one.To say how bad it was, to this day I still never spoke with the person that was suppost to be working with us, and out real estate Agent had to go to her office and hunt her down multiple times cause we couldn't get her to return calls. Then we just called Corprate on them, and they paid some of our closing costs (the seller paid the rest).

wow. i went to a meeting with my loan officer and in 2 hrs we were approved and had pwk in hand to go find a place. but we had already picked out a house by then anyways. of course, i know we could have offered much less for the house and got it, but phil didn't want to take any chances. in the summer time, the market here is insane. still, we got a little equity in the house, but come summer time, we'll gain a lot more.and didn't they need the appraisal BEFORE you closed?? i thought most banks want to make sure they are getting their money's worth.

Yeah, how it went is we were preaproved in like a half an hour, and had the paperwork to go look, but we did all that online with a Rep. Then we picked our house, and after about a week of giving them our offer and gettign theres, we came to an agreement. The bank then sent out the apraser (sp?). That is when the problems started. First off, they didn't know it was a Manufactured home, so they had to go back and do more paperwork. Then they relized I was gettign a VA loan, and needed to redo the paperwork for that (and during this time was long breaks cause we can never get a hold of them, and when we do talk to them they tell us we should be ready in a day or two). Finally after all that, the NIGHT BEFORE CLOSING, the bank is just shocked that this house has a well, and we have to go out and find a guy that will inspect it at 4:30 in the afternoon, and the house is a half hour out of town. It just felt like everything was a suprise for them, even though we gave them all the paperwork, info, MLS, and tax records for this house that said all this stuff. And every step of the way, it was just making the sellers more and more mad. Then on top of everything, they want me to pay another $300 (I already paid $400 for the aprasal, and $50 for the well) for some inspection on the foundation that we didn't even know they had done(we did our own house inspection through a guy we know). We didn't pay cause they never even told us they were doing it.We finally closed, and love the house, and are happy with it, but I hope to never go through that hassle again.

ok, now i see. you did the online thing. ya, NEVER do the online thing when buying a house! refi is one thing, but actualy buying is another. i was told by MANY lenders and realators. in fact, some of the larger outfits here will NOT sell you a house if you are using outside/online lenders. plus, if you default on your closing date, they will take your $3K earnest money and then sell your house to someone else because you are in default. we came close to missing our deadline, but that's because i wanted to close earlier and it was the holiday season, so they kinda had it sitting on their desk. but my loan officer is awesome (she's in my network group) and got them on the ball to get us that paperwork to close on time. so, on time to the builder, but not on time for my preferred schedule. i don't care to wait..... We only did the "preaproval" online, the rest was a Countrywide Branch in town. Either way it's over, and I am not doing it again for a LONG time.I meant to ask you about the whole Clearwire idea. How good of an idea is it to get. I know I am not doing Cable, and we don't have a phone line for DSL.... so I am trying to find a way to get internet. Any Ideas?

i'm not sure if we have service in fayetteville or not. i do know we have quite a bit of NC now. if so, than yes, i love mine. not just cause i work there, but even if i didn't i'd still have it. internet ala carte. that's what i love. no phone line or cable line and we can take it with us if need be. but i started a house thread so get some pics up and post them of your new house!

it's basically they dedicate a phone number to your place solely for data the phone number doesn't actually work to call on but it works for DSL
