Lowering Springs Vrs. Coilovers

Post by MYKIDSGT »

Can some one explain to me how coilovers work?I had Eibach springs before with KYB shocks on my 91 Nissan Sentra(May she rest in Pieces ) Awesome Ride and conering with the Sportlines set up.I am interested in these http://www.adventon.com/acb/showdetl.cf ... 7&CATID=84 What is the difference and or what will be the advantages of the coilover set up.?Thanks,Marcos

Generally, the spring is shorter and without the progressive spring rate most springs use now a days. They also require minor modifications to the shocks/struts in order to make em' fit as they use their own spring perch. The Skunk 2's and Ground Control set up is essentially the same, alumunum thread post, and adjustable spring perch. The differences in the 2 are the way they adjust. The skunk 2 version uses a dual plate spring persch and is adjusted with a lever. Move the 2 down (counter clockwise) and lower. Move the 2 up and raise. The only locking mechanism is the 2 adjusters tightened together. They are fairly simple really. The GC's work the same way except theis is a single perch that locks via an alan wrench. Did this make any sense? Haven't had enough coffee yet.....

Cool, Thanks. It makes plenty of sense. I think I will opt for the lowering springs.I dont want to have to modify anything like that when it comes to the main components down there. It would be nice to have adjustability, but I dont think its worth it for me .Thanks again

Actually it only takes a few seconds and consists of knocking the steel cap off and cutting a foam boot putting on the coil over and putting the cap back on. If you are still considering I think I still have the instructions for my GC's, I will post 'em tomorrow! The Skunk 2's sohould be about the same.

O.K,I will take a loom at them if you get a chance to do it.I was also considering the the Ground controls 'cause I remembered that you had them. Plus, I think they also were used on the GT-R as well and the car looked awesome. Thats the look I am going for.Thanks.

If I can get my stupid CPU to power up again I will do it at lunch today. It came to a grinding halt (literally) this morning as my alarm clock went off! Strange coincidence eh? Anywho, I just like the whole idea of having control over the drop. I didn't want just springs this time because with the current ride height of the stock vibe, I didn't want to not get it low enough.
