Well, according to the US site fueleconomy.gov, a '98 Accord with that engine and automatic is 22 MPG city / 29 MPG highway. Or, 10.7L/100km city, 8.1L/100km highway. That's really surprising, not even 30 MPG on the highway? I would have expected more from a 4-banger Honda. Heck, I could get 34 on the highway out of my V6 Malibu of the same vintage. Looks like the most efficient engine for that year was the vtec at 30 MPG.Well, at least you're one above the sticker for city.

try replacing the fuel filter and getting an injector flush... that may helpalso- dont forget about that timing belt - i think its due every 60000 miles on that little 4cyl. so you should have just had it done or it is due. It wont help your MPG but it will help your engine not die.

I'll be seeing the joys of these belt thingies in another 45,000 myself... The injector flush sounds good too, if not anything else, it will make it run better...

Wow just saw that the 22 mpg for the city is pretty crappy........but the sad part is i just did my math over and iam only getting 18/19 mpg US with the car so i guess i will have to be happy with a good car..not a good car with with good gas milage.lol.........thanks CP.

i get about 500 kms in 1 tank for my sunfire, sometimes 450 or so, depends on how i drive, i tend to have a heavy foot, think the most i ever did was about 570km's in 1 tank, but that was cuz i went up north 5 hrs and camped
SOME sunfires are like this, i maintain my sunfire really really well, whenever it has to have an oil change, i change it, plus i sometimes use some additives like lucos products, most of the sunfires i know, are really bad on gas, but then again it's the driver themselves making the car have bad gas milage due to the heavy foot
Who owned it before you? Did they properly maintain it? Because if the previous owner didn't take care of the car, the engine is probably for crap now and that could also be your issue...
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
