Aesthetically pleasing head units?

Post by patrickogrady »

I've just recently purchased a 2006 base Vibe with the standard radio/cd unit. I would like to fit a head unit with an aux input for my mp3 player, but the units I've seen so far don't have that integrated look I want. I prefer a new unit to an aux input device. The dash combo of chrome/red and backlighting is what I am looking too match as closely as possible. Do any readers have suggestions for units I might consider? Thanks to all in advance!

As a matter of fact I do! I just recently installed a Sony CDX-GT400 and IMO is matches great when using the red (or alternatively, light blue) backlight. Also has front panel AUX IN.Coincidentally those are the same two factors that drove my purchase decision.

Thanks, that was actually the unit I have been considering, just wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas. Can I ask you what else besides the head unit itself you used during installation ie install kits, wiring harness adapters, etc? Thanks again!

Yeah, I got it from Crutchfield and it comes with the harness adapter, an antenna adapter, bracket and all instructions. You'll need some connectors to wire the included harness adapter to the part that plugs into the back of the Sony HU. I had enough on hand -- I think Crutchfield has those too but you can get them cheaper just about anywhere else.I really dig this HU, and especially the remote!

If the mod bug has a hold of you, might I suggest running pre-outs and the remote amp turn-on when installing the HU. I just installed a Sony CDX-GT500 two weeks ago, then last week had to pull the thing back out to add my rca pre-outs and the rem. turn-on wire.Just a thought.
