Finally broke down and bought a console

Post by ColonelPanic »

Now I can sit around with my joystick in my hand... huh huh huh huh...But screw playstations and x box thingies and whatever else... This is far superior technology.http://www.atari.com/us/games/.../780040 of the old Atari games, including Pitfall (that's the main reason I bought it!) You can see the list of games by looking in the manual for this thing here.Ahh, the feel of that old crappy joystick... The woodgrain on the console. Those great graphics. The games were all hard as hell, I never could get through any of 'em. Wasn't like now where you can jump online and find cheats or walkthroughs. Yep, those were the days. Thirty bucks at ye olde wal*mart. Anyway, time for me to go hook it up. I WILL make it all the way through Pitfall this time around! I never could before, but it WILL happen this time. Screw you stupid quicksand, crocodiles, and snakes that like to bite me in the nads!!!

I had Caverns of Mars on my Atari 800 home computer! Loaded it off cassette tape. Great game, but I could never get all the way through it either.I think what made all those games "hard" was that there was no Save Game. You made it all the way through on the lives you began with, or started over!

You run around falling into wells every ten seconds, try to avoid the scientist and FBI dudes, revive dead flowers and crap, eat m&m's,, get that elliott kid to bring you back to life, look for pieces of that stupid phone and then find the place to call the ship before you run out of juice. (removed)! Crappy game, but it's one of the few Atari games I've ever beat. I never realized how big of a flop that game was until recent years.. Check out the article above.I totally agree that Defender should be on here. That was a great one! I'd give anything to have Demon Attack on there too, that game rocked. Soo many others that I remember and loved, man...I'm having fun with this thing... Some of the games I'm like "uhh, okay" but there are enough of the good ones to make it worthwhile. I do think I regret playing Yars Revenge with the lights out, when you beat the level and it flashes the screen a bunch of times... Ouch, that hurts, glad I'm not prone to seizures! Grteat stuff, and in its almost original format, that's the way one should experience it. I've tried playing these games on other platforms, it just isn't the same.

You can hack your Atari Flashback to play other original 2600 cartridges. There's a site set up by the engineer who actually did the Flashback.http://www.atarimuseum.com/fb2hacks/

Holy crap, that's cool! What a great find. I'd do this but I bet I'd kill the darn thing. I still have many, many carts down at the folks house... The VCS is down there too, but I don't know if it works or not anymore, I do know I'd need the power supply and RF modulator switch thingy. Thanks for the link, I didn't know anything like this was possible. Seeing the guts of this thing, my my - what a marvel of minaturization. To think the stuff that made the Atari kick PLUS all the games are on that tiny little board...

Schweet! I was just thinking tonight about how great it would be to have SuperBreakout. I think either it or Breakout was on one of my older TV Games joysticks that resembled the Atari joystick with the handful of built-in games (that my dog chewed up ) but it sure was pointless to play that on anything other than paddles. Found some hidden games thanks to Wikipedia:Quote »Paddle GamesThe console also includes two hidden titles which require the use of paddle controllers. The Flashback 2 does not come with paddle controllers, so these games cannot be played unless the user has an original set of Atari 2600 paddle controllers. To access the hidden paddle game menu, the user must press up on the joystick 1 time, pull down 9 times, push up 7 times, and pull down 2 times. (This represents the year 1972, in which Pong first appeared). The code must be entered steadily and without pauses (enter it too quickly and it won't work).Super BreakoutWarlordsNow, I just gotta find a set of functional Atari 2600 paddles! I don't remember if mine were working that I had or not... I had a variety of different joysticks and even the video touch pad for mine oh so long ago, it's great to see this unit accepts all those old controllers. Time to scour the net in search of paddles.
