Blasted a bucket

Post by Merzbow »

So I was driving home fram EXTREMELY long day at work. Still tense and stressed from not being able to eat or take a break the whole time. I'm about 4 cars lengths behind and a lane to the right of this Ford Ranger with a ton of crap in the bed tied down. Suddenly I see this big@$$ white bucket pop up out of hte bed and slam into the concrete. I was driving at about 85mph and he was about the same speed as me so the bucket hhit the ground and started spinning like 900mph. I slammed on the brakes only realizing it wouldn't help anything so I let off and just allowed hte bucket to hit my car. It hit the front bumper and shot up into the night sky. It missed my windshield and roof so my gues is that it hit so hard it just blasted it into the air. I looked into the mirror to see if it was going to land on the Ram behind me but it took like 10-15 seconds to actually hit the ground behind me. It flew over the truck entirely and then bounced into the left lane at which point I stopped watching it.I took down his plates which was 100% useless because my phone was dead and I had no paper, also don't know the police deparment's number and I didn't want to call 911 when it wasn't an emergency.Got out to check for damage and I couldn't find any! Built like a rock! BTW I was driving my other car, 1991 Taurus GL Wagon. if I were in the Vibe the scenario would have been different, I would have swerved hard to avoid hitting the bucket and either A) successfully avoided impact, or B) Unlike the Taurus, it would have shattereed the entire front end or something stupid like that and probably got sucked unter my car, ripped things up underneath...if I had hit it in my Vibe I don't think the guy in the truck would be getting out of the truck when it finally stopped rolling after I would run him off the road Since it was in the Taurus I have to admit it was definately funny watching the bucket disappear into the sky for such a long time, hittin it at about 80mph.

I've had stuff almost hit my car or almost fall out of people's cars, I don't take chances any more. If I'm behind something that remotely looks like something will fall out, I pass it. One time there was this Ranger hauling a long box. Went from the back of the bed to over the cab. Well, the Ranger hit a bump and the thing slid off of the cab and towards my lane. I immediately slammed on the brakes. It was all I could do, there was nowhere else to go. I just watched, as the box flexed and nearly flipped out of the Ranger. I think I hauled my car down from 75 to 45 in no time flat. So is 85 regular cruising speed around there? I've driven it around here and it's not bad, except for the people that flip out thinking your car will explode if you go more than 5 or 10 over (depends on who you talk to).

LOL, the GL only has 3.0 liter but with the hole in the muffle rit sounds wicked...better than half the V8s on the road beleive it or not. It also has some get up and go! I punched it going like 70mph and that needle shot all the way up in no time...maye even faster than the vibe.Yeah, it's in perfect condition besides minor rust under the doors, so I wouoldn't say beater per-sae but my winter/work car. The Vibe will be stored in the garage this winter and the neighborhood I work in is like a mild version of the Detroit suburbs lol.BTW, the speed limit on I-75 is like 70 or something like that. If you aren't doing atleast 80 you'll get run over by everyone else, probably even your grandma. I try to go atleast 10-15mph over the limit to make good time, and generally if you are at 9mph or under, over the limit, you are in the safe zone from the cops. They set their guns to 10-11mph normally.

Ha ha! Crunch! Splat! Whatever! I'd love to have something I didn't care to get the crap beat out of, I'd welcome something like this. Sounds like phun. Glad it wasn't the Vibe, that really would have effed it all up! That paint can't take bugs, let alone flying plastic! lol

Glad to hear there was no damage. I blasted a cardboard box yesterday. It was laying flat on the road and the truck in front of me ran over it, kicked it up in the air, where it opened up and landed right in front of my passenger side front bumper. I could do nothing but run over it. No damage luckily. I was most worried that it would have ripped out my wheel well liner. It came through unscathed though.
