I get to have my rotors turned on the car for free. woohoo

Post by 4X4CHICHI »

I just machined some brake caliper adapters for my buddy's 300Z twin turbo. He put these huge discs on his car and I made the adapters. So in return he is going to let me come to his shop and he is going to turn my rotors on the car for free. I hear this is the best way to have them turned. Has anyone else heard of this?

I didn't know there was more than one way of turning rotors

He said you leave them on the car and the machine attaches to your hub. I guess.Normally, I have them turned on a lathe.

Sounds like a weird way to do it. I've only ever seen brake shops use a lathe. But hey if it's free, and your brakes need it then heck yea!

I guess it's the only way to get them totally true to your car.

Your buddy is correct. You are better off having the rotor turned while it's on the car. It uses the wheel berings for balence. not a balenced lath. you will get a better turn of the rotor being it's "customized" to your car.

more importantly it works well.most of the dealers are going to this style of on car lathe. It is just plain faster and easier to setup.plus you can still charge the same labor but save time = more profits.CAN-AWD-VIBE

those tires are no good to you though... stock on a lower end 350 is 225/45R18 in front and 245/45R18 for the rears... thats not going to a agree with you little vibe as well as it might look.thats a 4.4% difference in front and 7.2% difference in the back. the only good that will do for you is fill in whats left of your fender gap.CAN-AWD-VIBE

That doesn't tell us the rim size.

Sorry, they were 17s. I thought that was implied since it was answering CAN-AWD-VIBE's post about the 350 not having 17s...

If that is the case, then the fronts would only be less than an inch on the diameter. That's not hateful.

the rears would be a little more than 1.25 on the diameter and only about 3/8 wider, hmmmmm

better... but unless its a great deal its not worth it to me. IMHOwith the AWD- im not willing to mess with my tire size too much, especially when i sc.
