What did you drive 4 your drivers test?

So I went out to drive on my lunch break and spotted an old Chevy Caprice. It made me think of my Mom's '87 that I drove for my driver's test in '92. It handled like a Yacht and was about as big as one. It floated like one too. On the way there we were doing about 50mph when a pheasant decided to fly up from the weeds directly into the grill. Yes, I showed up for my driving exam with a broken grill and blood all over the front of the car.So, I made this post because I'm curious about what you drove for your state exam and also if you have a funny story about it.One more funny thing, I was so nervous and wanted my license so bad that I didn't even fill out my name, address and Birthdate correctly. The guy at the DMV offered to my mother that I take the test for special people. He was serious!! Jerk!

hahha i drove a late 80's or early 90's Pontiac sunbird. nice car to take the test in, it was small and manuverable.

Did they make you guys back into a parking space? Do you know how hard it was to do in a car that was about six inches thinner than the parking space? I nailed it though.

Where you take the driver's test there are two big yellow gates and you have to parallel park between them, but when I took my test there was a big tractor trailer there and he said to me "just verbally tell me how you'd park." ha! So I never had to do any parking.

Ontario has their driver's license in stages. G1, G2 and G upon finishing. First test is writen, second and third are driven ones. First driven test I drove my brother's white 4door 94(I think) Pontiac Grand Am. I took my next test in my room mate's manual 96 Sunfire GT which I later bought from him.I passed the first driven test no issues...Second time though I failed the first try. I had practiced the days leading up to the test, did everything I thought they would have me do... I was all confident to. Guy hops in and says the usual stuff... all relaxed and I failed horribly... damn guy talked the whole time.re-test, different guy. he didn't say a word and we had like 1.5 feet of fresh snow overnight. I passed.

I took a drivers ed course during high school and got to drive an Aztek. 3 of us and the teacher went on a road trip (about 1 1/2 hrs away) letting us take turns driving. The teacher took a nap while I was driving (the teacher of this summer course was also a football coach)My actual test was in my sisters '00-'02 Taurus. I drove around a few blocks. took all of about 5-10 minutes

Sputnik feels old? I took mine in my Dad's '78 Olds 98 Regency. Metallic green with matching cloth interior and a padded vinyl top.At least the old man bought it with the 403 V8...........

I actually owned an '84 Camaro at the time of the test. My Dad insisted I drive the Caprice because he thought if I screwed up driving the 5 speed in the Camaro I'd fail.

I took mine in my cousons 92 Chevolet Prizum auto 3speed. That thing was tight, and thankfully a little more reliable than my 84 Mitusbishi Tredia.

Took it in my 1982 Monte Carlo. Quite similar to the one pictured, 'cept for the top, which was a purdy dark blue. Was far from compact: 200.4" L x 71.8" W. The craphole rural Kentucky location in which I grew up had a sophisticated parallel parking test course, consisting of two rusty (removed) 55-gallon drums in the court house parking lot. I didn't hit them but I didn't get close enough to the imaginary "curb" so the asshat took points off for that..If you didn't take your drivers test in a large car, you didn't take your drivers test. My sister had it MUCH worse than I, she drove what Mom had at the time she got her license - 1980 Buick Electra. 225" long, to put it in perspective, that's the same as a damn Excursion! Funny thing, I'm more nervous behind the wheel of a large car today than I was the first time I hit the road in my land yacht Monte.

A 1967 Ford Galaxie 500 4-dr. I must be the only old fart still on this board!For perspective, in 1969, virtually all 'full-size family cars' were big boats. I took driver's ed at high school in a 1968 Chevrolet Caprice 4-dr. Our instructor was very cool. One of the things he had us do was 'doughnuts' in the parking lot, so we got the feel of an rear-wheel-drive car skidding on ice in the winter. Front wheel drive was a novelty then! The Olds Toronado and Cadillac Eldorado were the only domestic-built front wheel drive cars available . Even most imports still had RWD. The only exception I can think of was the original BMC Mini.My son just completed driver's ed in August 2006. Because of legal liability issues, most high schools no longer offer drivers' ed. Eric took his 'waiver test' at the driving school in a bright blue PT Cruiser. The waiver means he doesn't have to take the State driving test, just the written test when he turns 16 and one-month.Speaking of the ludicrous licensing requirements for new drivers in most states, (30 hours of classroom instruction, but just 6 hours behind the wheel!) no driver's ed for me. took mine in the family 93 subaru legacy L 5MT wagon, pre-AWD. said i needed to let up on the clutch and less on the gas... LOLguess some things haven't changed.

ive parralleled a Chevy Avalanche. and boy was it harded that anything else, cause the back of the truck is so high i can barely see the tops of any small/ regualr sized trucks and Tahos.

My Drivers Test was taken in a 1978 Caprice classic light green 305 auto was my moms car and sitting at home was my 70 GTO i was working on with my dad for the past year prior and when i got my liscense my GTO was running what a good time miss those days

I'm not sure many of the younger ones on here really know what it's like to drive a car where you have no clue what the front wheels are doing. Really, these cars had no steering feel and about three to four inches of play before the car would actually turn. Thank you God for rack & pinion.
