http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/200...os_dcThis is kinda like my family suing a cigarette company for giving all cancer to everybody in the world. Sure automakers might be a part of the problem, but they aren't the entire problem. And you can't blame Ford or Toyota for some crappy Chinese cars in a third world country that don't have emission standards. If California wants stronger emission standards then they have to sue our government and the governments of the world, they are the ones that decide what emission standards are set. Don't hold the gun maker liable for the murder of some guy, even though it has happened. Hold the person doing the killing responsible. Automakers are not going to invest billions of dollars under their own free will with the off chance that they could stop global warming, especially GM or Ford who have major financial problems right now. If this lawsuit does somehow get to the courts and they somehow manage to win some of the automakers might go out of business.
thats a big load of crap. And seriously... can california put the money (if they win) back into the environment and fix the damage of global warming? I think not. I should be suing the tobacco companies for selling people smokes who then smoke around me and give me second hand smoke.

Yeah what a great blow to the auto companies right now! I doubt it will be settled soon but still! And the cars going in Calf right now are supposed to adhere to Calf emissions or else they cannot be sold there! Once this goes through, they will still have all the older cars that pollute and the ones that did meet the emissions criteria like today's, plus all the new cars per their new emissions that sounds like is coming from fall out from this lawsuit. My point is unless the states cuts down on vehicles, there will always be emissions to some degree in the damn state making someone sick or some crap like that!Calf needs to go to Smart or GEM cars only in the state and be done with it!
I'm not surprised. If people can sue gun manufacturers when a loved one gets shot by a criminal, and a woman can sue McDonald's because she spilled hot coffee on her lap, why not. I think I'm going to sue Pepsi next time I get a cavity.

Oh, no, no, no... Where have you been there, buddy? Under a rock? I thought by now that everybody knows the cleansing qualities of excessive amounts of US currency. See, all California has to do is wave their "tens or hundreds of millions of dollars" in the air and instantly, global warming is reversed and the air is fresh as a spring day! No longer will California have that not-so-fresh feeling if they can sue the nads off those pesky automakers! lmfaoI think the auto manufacturers should sue California for being a pain in the a**. GM could sue for mental anguish brought forth by customer dissatisfaction because they weren't allowed to use paint on the Vibes that were built there 'cause CA said nooooo.. Seriously though, if California thinks they have anything to gain in the future by taking craploads of money away from the automakers, they may be in a bit of a surprise, IMHO. Especially ones that are strapped for cash like Ford and GM. Last time I checked, it takes a good chunk of change to develop new technologies that will make for a cleaner vehicle. And if you're hurting for money already, then you have to pay out a ton for bogus lawsuits, you're not really going to have a lot of cash laying around to devote towards developing and producing these new clean cars that California is always whining about wanting, are you? Well, maybe they'll see that and sue Toyota for more than the others, they can afford it. heh*shrug* I'm a person who likes to see good things come about for the environment... I don't want to see global warming get any worse.. Things need to be done, and need to be done now or else we're done for. But I just don't think this is the right answer, this isn't going to get us anywhere. This is just stupid.

I've always been one to cut through the crap. There's a whiner like this in every bunch. Cali want's to sue ALL the automakers for a product built to Cali's specifications (Notice California emissions are already stricter than any other state) and sold legally? Simple answer: stop selling cars in the state of California. Wait then for Cali to come CRYING for the return of the automobile. Getting sued for selling cars in that state? DON'T SELL ANY! Whiner is eliminated from play until such a time that they are willing to place nicely with others. Until then- let them screw themselves.
I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code
they should just sue all the cali residents because they bought the cars and drive them... the auto makers didnt force their cars to be sold there.... lol jk. this is just a stupid thing to sue over since cars make it possible for people to work and get around to keep cali going with all that tax money. Maybe all the rich people there should get greener cars instead of those hummers and suvs
I want to see proof of this and learn about all the people that got sick!"charging that greenhouse gases from their vehicles have caused billions of dollars in damages." This is from another article:Lockyer's action comes 48 days before the November election. He is termed out of office this year and is running for state treasurer."This is the silly season of elections in the fall, and obviously he thinks this will gain him a few marginal votes," said Sean McAlinden, an economist with the nonprofit Center for Automotive Research in Ann Arbor, Mich. "I don't think it means anything more than it says. It's California politics."
