"Outside linking not allowed"

Post by ColonelPanic »

Every so often, I try to click on an attachment in a post and the server denies me access to said attachment...Quote »File attachments can only be linked from the message board server; Outside linking is not allowed.Your referrer: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerouserThis happened most recently in damronjr's spoiler post for the pic... I was using Opera on my mac... Worked fine in Firefox. What's up with that?

This happens when your browser doesn't return a reference URL or an incorrect reference (essentially where you were when you were given this URL).When you click the link, the browser says "hey, I want 123.zip file, I'm from http://www.genvibe.com"Since the server is hosting genvibe, it's cool. But if you were to link some stuff from your own personal website, it would return that URL... and the server may not let you.Essentially it's to prevent bandwidth theft. Most likely you have turned off Opera's referal option or there's a bug in it. CP: I have Opera installed, I'll see if I can duplicate your issue. What thread did you have this issue in?

It was in this thread, the attachment in the first post: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=24960It would work fine in Firefox but not Opera (v9.00)I just tried it again in Opera and now it lets me see the pic that was attached. Weird... I'm thinking there's a little bug in Opera somewhere, I haven't turned anything off that I recall... The only difference, the computer hasn't been rebooted but Opera has been closed and restarted since then and now.
