http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...urveyh ... ..urveyHas anyone had any experience with General tire? Are they any good? In the survey, the General has more miles reported against it and a smoother, quieter ride (which is the priority here, not handling). They are about the same price. IMHO, the General tire looks better. What do you think?

I havn't put any of the General's on a Vibe, but I have put them on a Mustang and a Grand Am. I personally found them to be loud on the Grand Am, and horribal in rain on the Mustang. On the other hand, I have put 2 sets of Solus's on Vibes now. One was a used car, but the other one is the Princess Vibe (bosses Daughter) she has right at 20K on them and they still ride well, are decently quiet and have at least 50% of their tread left. They have been rotated every 7,500 miles, so that might help....

I had General brand OEM tires on a Ford Taurus and they were Crap. 3 of the 4 Failed before 36K miles and they were rated over 60,000. One had a blister, another a Blowout, and the third completely de-treaded. I will never get that brand. But then I could have had a bad batch and this was about 10-12 years ago.
Well, my parents had an '03 Pontiac Montana with Generals and they were awful. Terrible ride and very noisy. But they were OEM tires. The OEM tires on the Vibe are the Goodyear Eagle RS-A, which aren't all that good, even though Goodyear makes the Assurance line of tire, which is great. Could this be the case? That the General OEMs are junk and this one is OK?Edit: Not sure where I got that the General has a smoother ride, since it ranked below the Kumho by 0.1. Must be looking at too many tires.

The Kumho has a higher treadwear rating, 440 versus 380 for the General. They are 2 totally different tires. The Kumho is a grand touring tire (ranked 3rd.) and the General is an ultra high performance tire and ranks second in their survey. I would go for the General but I am most interested in performance. Either tire looks like a good choice, it just depends what you want.
Hiya...I have been looking at the Generals but just solely for Summer. Since you're in AZ, I don't think you'll have a problem. I've heard the Generals have somewhat softer sidewalls, probably not much unlike my old Contenintal ExtremeContacts. If you want a relatively inexpensive tire for performance, it sure looks like the Generals are the way to go. If you want a quieter softer ride, then the Kumhos seem to be a decent choice.Dave
Kumho, Kumho, Kumho! I'd go for the Solus, but personally I'm one to not like the super duper high performance tires. I'm usually miserable with the ride, noise, and traction in foul weather for those kinds of tires. Give me something softer that won't abuse me as much, I'll gladly give up some handling. lol!My Accent has a different variety of Kumho Solus tires on it, they've been absolutely wonderful. A very quiet ride, great handling, and great traction in wet weather. Kari has the KH16's, and while I don't drive her car and can't say whether the handling is good, it does have a nice ride and has less noise than it did with the RSA's. I know a few others with the KH16's, they love 'em. I'll be replacing my Kumhos with another set of Kumhos when their time comes, can't beat the price and the quality.
