My fusion orange base is about to turn 3 in a few weeks and I am happy to report I've had zero problems with it. Yeah the windows rattle when half way down but other than that it runs great - plus, I've been getting 38 - 40 mpg and lovin' it!I do my own basic maintenance oil, filters, etc. and have about 38K miles so far.

No kidding, tell us your secret. So far I've been averaging about 32 m.p.g. with the 5 speed. What kind of oil and filters do you use?

Same question here on how you get such high mpg.I take it fairly easy on my '04 base automatic vibe and can only get around 30 mpg overall which is somewhat close to the EPA mileage.
If you get an intake that can open up some milage if you are easy on the gas.also use fuel injector cleaner. My fiance has a base auto and gets about 34-ish MPGI got a base 5-speed and with spirited driving get abotu 32-34 MPGw/ exhaust, intake, short shifter, and few other mods.

My commute is mostly on back roads so I average around 45 mph. I keep the RPMs down to around 2K and use Mobil Synthetic oil. I think the single biggest factor is driving style - slow starts, keeping the RPMs down, and not racing to stop lights / signs.
