Im not sure which thread it is but there was one about them before and the consensus was that the LED replacements are utter crap. They just are not bright enough to be of any use. Unless you filled the entire lense area with LED's you wont get the same brightness.

I have round tail/stop lights on my Jeep that have 60 LEDs. They are much brighter than teh factory lights. Like was mentioned, they are not very bright unless in numbers. The cheap repalcement bulbs with LEDs don't do much more than factory bulbs and IMO are pointless as a bulb under a factory reflector.

If either are not exceptional - you run the risk of running dark. Also remember, most LED replacement bulbs I've seen are not DOT compliant - so if you get rearended because someone couldn't see your lights - you'll be at fault. That being said, LED replacement 3rd brake light would be sweet. As would front turn signal markers and side markers (as an after market add-on).

They can't say they didn't warn ya though. http://www.superbrightleds.com/carbulb-notes.htmQuote »"Brightness of LED Car BulbsLED bulbs are generally not as bright as standard incandescent bulbs, they have many advantages over filament bulbs (longer life, faster on/off times, lower power consumption, more vivid colors) but brightness is not one of them."They can be bright, i.e. tail light modules on trucks/buses/etc. But those lights are specifically designed around LED's, not something that was designed for an incandescent and then throw some LED's in there. So yep, probably not worth it to replace anything with LED's. IMHO, the Vibe's tail lights are weak enough back there, I never found them particularly bright personally. :cook: You don't want to add to that problem.

I find it strange that the makers of these incandecent replacement LED bulbs still haven't wised up and designed them to throw light in all directions to make full use of the reflector designed to be most efficient with an incandecent bulb. Almost all of the replacements I see shoot light directly back of the socket... but almost nothing is directed at the reflection surface - which makes up almost 75% of the tail light's illuminated areas...Check that - it appears that superbright has wised up. Hrm... might be worthy of a purchase "just to try"... then again... I don't want to waste $14

Something just came to me that i thought I'd share... To REALLY make an LED tail light project work, you need to find someone that could do something like this... (Yeah, I know, Hyundai crap but humor me for a minute because I don't care what kind of car this is on, this is a pretty damn sweet mod! )http://www.sharkracing.com/ace...00000If you can rip apart the Vibe's tail lights in a similar manner and have the same sort of LED's put in (with a similar reflector housing to mount the LED's in themselves like you can see on that site) that could work... Although the irregular shape of the Vibe's tail light would make it a bit more difficult. That's going to kick the hell out of any cheap (removed) LED bulb thingy, you'd stand a better chance of not being rear-ended... But still not DOT compliant so if somethin' happens, uhh... And satur9, the LED 3rd brake light looks sweet, I remember seeing those out there somewhere. Thought once about doing that myself when I had the car, back before people started making them.
