I have a new 06 Vibe with the Moon & Tunes options which gives you a sub-woofer in the back. I absolutely hate the sound system. I also have a 04 Honda Accord EX and the stock sound system is much better than this car. I am thinking of replacing the head unit for an Alpine 9857 which has 18x4 watts per channel.I am thinking of replacing the speakers with JL components in front, since it already comes with components in the front, and JL coaxials in the rear doors. I found a free air sub JL discontinued model ( 10IB4 ) (http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fus ... ct_id=2752) for the back where the moon soon sub is now. My question is , has anyone replaced their sub in back with an aftermarket, and if so, what sub have they used. It looks like the stock sub is 8" or less so the opening will have to be expanded to fit a 10" sub. I am thinking of buying this JL sub from woofersetc.com, has anyone purchased from them and how was your experience? Has anyone replaced the head unit for an aftermarket and if so is there an adapter for the speaker harness?Jeff

You cannot, as far as I know, use aftermarket speakers with the factory M&T amplifier. The factory speakers in the M&T are 2 Ohms, and the amp may not work well with 4 Ohm. Unless you just want to replace the head unit, you'll need to rip everything out and put in aftermarket speakers direct to the HU or aftermarket speakers with an aftermarket amp.

Replacing the door speakers should be fine. THe danger comes from putting 2 Ohm speakers on the stock stereo unit.Using 4 Ohm speakers with the M&T amplifier will work, but the amplifier stands a chance of overheating, and it won't be able to put out anywhere near the volume it put out with the 2 Ohm speakers. As for replacing the stock sub with an aftermarket on the stock amp, probably not a grand idea.
