It is the real of self expression!

Post by GMJAP »

My wife's parents are living in Indonesia, and they recently sent some toys for their grandson's birthday. Interestingly, the boxes and stickers are all in English, sort of. This is a collage of (1) the box to some sort of fire-rescue-vehicle, (2) the box to a bulldozer, & (3) several stickers from a remote-control car.

That was a good laugh. We used to work a lot with a company in Taiwan, and there were some real classics. Also many that I had no clue what they were trying to say!(Of course, my Chinese is non-existant so hats off to them for being able to speak some degree of English. )

One of those companies we deal with in China let us know that their main IT person we worked with was no longer with them... I can't remember the whole of it but it was like "we are informed you that such and such has been demissioned. his replacement is this person. we'd appreciated if you give him big help!"Demissioned, that's such a cool word!

I'm fluent(sp) in every language there is except one. .........I'm not fluent in Greek! And its All Greek to me!! I choose to speak only in english. For this reason I will not offend anyone of a different language by trying to speak it......And on another note..... in the words of Gallagher "...Why should we be serious about our language if its not serious enough to make cense..."

When I was in Korea, the Koreans said that even though they couldn't speak English, they could read it. I always thought that it was odd.

I always thought that it was odd.Generally when someone is learning a new language, they have an easier time understanding it than reading it. It's generally easier to hear a word and recognize its meaning than to try to conjure it up in the midst of speaking. Also, I find it easiest to read other languages. You can go slower than talking pace, and you don't have to deal with accents. Plus, most languages have no inherent separation of words in speech so it's harder to pick out words from a stream of syllables than when they are nicely spaced apart on the written page.

LOL, I have to say that was a very well worded explination. I felt like I was reading something out of a text book. Makes sence though....
