Yep I got a Jeep Compass Sport last night! Turned in my PT Cruiser and picked this up last night!! Four just arrived at the dealer last Thursday. I got a FWD, CVT auto trans, 2.4L VVT World Engine, cloth and a 458 watt nine speaker sound system! It sits just about as high as a Blazer. The pics are from work since I got it late last night.
Thanks Ano_Vibe! And thanks Sam! Well no doubt the PT had the engine power from the Turbo that will be missed, sometimes! LOL!!! This engine though is the new 2.4L engine and is quieter. This 2.4L also gets 5 better city miles than the PT did. The PT also had a clunky transmission like most trans that shift, however since the Compass has a CVT it is also quieter and smooth. The PT rear seats came completely out, the Compass they fold flat like the Vibe. I will get used to the CVT but I really like this vehicle so far! It is not loaded but I did not want it loaded and that payment. The only incentive I could get on it was my brother in laws employee discount. Being that it is a brand new vehicle!
Thanks guys! You either like it or hate is this car! I call it my "rugged ugly" Jeep! LOL! Yes NUBblackshirts I could see that too, might not look bad! However in my case it is leased so it will stay this way...The CVT will take some getting used to but really, besides it not shifting and I felt every shift in the PT, I like the CVT! It is funny when you punch it, it goes to 5500 and stays there until you let off the gas. Just like a snowmobile!
Yeah, I would say rugged and ugly are about right. Ha! All kidding aside though, I kind of like the Compass. It's something of an acquired taste but it's not that hard to acquire. Can't wait for a more long-term review of that engine though. It may very well end up being what powers my next vehicle.
I think CVT technology is really neat but I don't know if I would like it. It's kindof stupid to think that I (or anyone) wouldn't like it tho since (correct me if I'm wrong) it's more efficient, smoother, & quieter.Does having a CVT make a big difference in the price of a car?
Good points and you are right! And I agree! Once the general public gets over the fact of not feeling the shift, I think it will be received better. We are so stubborn!!!! Remember the Chevrolet Caprice Classics and when they got ABS! (removed)! As far as the price, the CVT was the only auto trans available, so I am not sure. But the vehicle starts at $15,000 for a 2.0L and a manual trans. You can figure from there on the CVT and options. I will have to look at the sticker for the exact price if it is listed for the CVT. And yeah, new trans technology and new engine for DCX, am I scared? No! Should I be, well maybe! However this CVT is made from the same company that makes the Nissan Morano. A long term report will be in order for sure but so far I like it.
I should have said, Is there much of a difference between price between a normal auto and a CVT?I guess it really doesn't matter tho b/c so far no car has been offered with the choice of normal auto or a CVT (that I know of). lol, I think were all just so used to shift shock that (like you said) it's just gonna take some time to get used to. Have you seen the new Nissan Maxima commercial? ...perfect example
So far it is good but I have not really played wth the power. It has 172 HP / 165 lbs ft. and since it is not AWD it weighs less, how much I am not sure though. I will try and find out... OK it weighs 3,155...
congrats! i've always wondered how it would be to ride in a 'shiftless' car. is it THAT smooth where you can't feel a gear change at all? definitely got a different look from the caliber. personally, its a better look than the PT

And it is that smooth! You can feel a gear change from drive to reverse but that is it. And of course when you let off the gas.
It is strange but very quiet. And honestly if I did not tell you it was a CVT, I doubt you would know sitting in the passenger seat. As a driver, if the Tach was not there, other then not feeling or hearing it shift, it would be hard to tell. There is a low range on the trans and if you watch the Tach you can tell when it is out of its low range. And when you look at the shifter, it has D and Low, that is it. I am used to it already though! Some people do not like it because they think if it does not shift and I do not feel it, it must not be working. I just get in and go! Plus the radio is on and I cannot hear it at all with normal driving. In traffic with the windows down I turn my nose up to all the transmissions I hear go from 1 to 2 and 3! LOL!!! Yeah I laugh now but they could laugh at me! I have seen my trans apart and there is a large metal band that drives the thing. If that ever breaks it is done!So if my rubber band on my snowmobile CVT trans goes, they can laugh at me!
That's a cool ride, Toolguy! I really like it. I've only seen one in person, silver like yours - very sharp. The Caliber is really taking off around here, I would have thought about getting a Caliber had the money been there.I like the powertrain, the world engine shows some promise and the CVT sounds pretty cool too. No shifts are smooth shifts. Enjoy the new car!
