drunkensorento?

Post by drunkenmaxx »

no no no! i didn't get a 2006 kia sorento, but drunkengirlfriend did this past saturday. it's not my cup of tea, but it's the car she's wanted for like 3 years now. it stickered close to 24k, but she got it for around 18k, so it was a good deal. they also paid off her 04 cavalier, which she still owed over 7k on! i don't really care for the way it looks, especially the fat tires. it has pretty good power, the accelerator is very touchy though. (no match for my maxx though) all in all, she really loves the thing, so that's all that matters.

actually, i like the sorrentos. they're not bad small SUV's and the price is right for them! rented one while i was in Fairbanks a few winters ago and i must say, for an inexpensive SUV type, it was nice. congrats to the new drunkensorento!

yeah, it's not horrible or anything. it rides nice and is very quiet. for a company that was the brunt of many jokes not too long ago, they did a pretty good job on it.the damn thing sits very high too! i was looking down into a ford explorer in it!

if i were to get an suv type, i'd really consider one of them or the new Hyundai Tucson (with the dual exhaust, of course)

no, we don't have silver cars. in fact, i find silver rather boring. i prefer bright colors like fusion, red, yellow, etc. however, with my driving style (not so much anymore) it wasn't good for me.

Cool. Sounds like a good deal! I think the Sorento is alright, it should be somewhat capable too - none of that sissy unibody carlike crap there, it's got a manly frame underneath it like a truck. I only briefly checked one out when the dealer was working on my Vibe and they had a used one on the lot, but from what little I saw of it, it was really nice... And yep, damn high up off the ground too! I think it should be a pretty good vehicle, probably won't need to use that 100,000 mile warranty that much...Kia is coming around nicely. They've come a long way from building crap like the old Ford Festivas and Aspires, the Sephia, the old Sportage... Methinks Hyundai buying them when they went bankrupt in the late 90's was probably the best thing that's happened to them, If only their dealers worked as hard as the parent company does. I had considered the Rio to replace the Vibe, as the Accent and new Rio are twins. But the local Kia dealers are gutter slime, there are several dealers but all owned by the same ripoff artists so the Hyundai it was. Hopefully you guys have a good dealer over there to work with, it doesn't happen to often with Kia (although things are still hit-and-miss with Hyundai as well, thank god I lucked out and found one of the good ones.)

an interesting tidbit i just found out. i just got a text from her and the dealer told her she only needed to change her oil every 7500 miles or 12 months. i told her that is BS, you should change it every 3k regardless (she runs dino juice, no synthetic).another interesting thing though; if she gets all her routine maintenance done at the dealer, she gets new tires for life of the car!

That just doesn't sound smart. The tire for life is a nice encentive though.

yeah, she won't listen to me. i'm trying to tell her that it's not the car that determines oil life, it's the damn oil! stupid dealer, why would they say that? they would get paid more with more frequent oil changes anyway.

I think the engine design has something to do with the oil life recommendation too though...the Trailblazer has a 5,500 mile oil change recommendation I believe. And CP's Accent also had the 7,500 mile recommendation. I don't remember it saying 12 months though...that's kind of nuts.

Yup, maintenance schedule right in front of me... 3750 for the severe schedule, 7500 for the normal. But my dealer puts 3,000 on the sticker when they do the oil change. I love how dealers always have "better" recommendations than the engineers. Drunken, I don't quite like the 7500 mile oil changes, particularly, by going by past experience with how nasty that crap was looking when I was a lazy bum and didn't change my oil for 6,000 miles or whatever. I've been doing mine every 3K and have just been having them put whatever oil they want in it, which has been Valvoline. The next change that's coming due, methinks I'll bring them some Mobil1 so I can run closer to the manufacturer's recommendation without freaking out about it. Does that thing take that weird 5W-20 weight oil too?

i would recommend 4500-5000 miles per oil change to be on the safe side if they are recommending 7500 miles. my tundra said 4500 miles and i had it done each 4500 miles because it came with 4 yrs of oil changes (i had coupons that i gave the dealership based on the mileage).

I forgot to post the months above. oops! They have me down at every 6 months or 7500 miles. The severe schedule is 3 months or 3750.
