Please ID mystery CAT3 cable / telephone cord

Post by sebdtw »

Hi all, I purchased my '03 VibeGT used, so I don't know what aftermarket mods might be in it. I found this wiring behind my A/C controls. It looks like a telephone cord (CAT3 cable). Has anyone ever seen something like this in their Vibe or in other aftermarket installs? I tried following the wiring to find out what it was, but it seems to head straight back -- towards the firewall -- and disappears in the darkness.

I think my friend had one in his truck. It was either a volume control for his aftermarket head unit or amp. OR it was a volume control for a sub. His plugged into a knob thing from the HU or amp.

What's it say on the thing it's connected to? That's definitely aftermarket.

That's a hardwire kit for a Valentine 1 radar detector. I'm 100% sure of that because I installed 2 of those between my cars. It basically just taps into a power wire and ground. The phone jack (MAIN UNIT) then connects to the radar detector via the cat 3. The other phone jack (ACCESSORY) connects to the remote volume/mute/threat display via another cat 3.Search around some more and maybe you'll find the $400 detector!
