Button Pushers

Post by Atomb »

My window at work overlooks the parking lot and i noticed over the last couple of days that many people i work with insist on pushing the 'lock' button on their FOB at least 2 or 3 times when leaving the car to come into work...then i realized that i push it twice most of the time!So how often do you 'push the button'?
I have signatures turned off so I'm not even sure what mine says in this space!

Twice for me, most of the time... I guess I want to make sure it's locked.

Maybe because pressing it twice opens all doors, some may think twice for lock is needed as well...I am a one lock guy myself.

Once with my Vibe unless I don't hear the horn or see the lights flash.

Im used to pressing the fob twice cause on the Ford if I didnt have a door completely shut the horn would beep twice to let me know the car was not secured correctly. So yea, Im used to pressing the fob twice out of habit.

Funny thing last night on this subject. I'm used to pushing the fab button and seeing the flash as a visual reassurance, had both hands full but managed to be able to hit the fab button and no flash! I put away the groceries, looked out the window, hit it again, no flash; opened front, door unlock and hear the locks actuate, still no flash. Walk out check the door handle, door locked. When I got in to leave the driveway this morning, the door light (dash indicator) was on, the hatch was popped when I checked, I shut it ,the flash was back when I locked it at work, lesson learned. I, as well, use the manual door button. That way I get immediate positive feedback . . . . .and save on battery life.

Not to hijack the "once or twice" fob question...but I have fob envy, my wifes car rolls both windows down if you hold down the unlock button. Pretty nice on those 115+ days.

I used to hit the button at least twice on the Vibe. I'd never be looking for the lights the first time I hit the button, so I would try it again and remember to pay attention to see if it locked. No audible confirmation was a bummer. The car before that had audible but not visible confirmation. The Accent will flash its lights, and at the second press, honk the horn. How many times I hit the button depends on my surroundings. Most of the time, I'll hit the switch twice. But when I'm getting home from work at 4 AM, I don't bother with hitting the button twice as I'd rather not disturb the neighbors. That's a moot point sometimes, since I have a tendency to inadvertently activate the panic alarm on this thing. lol!Unlocking is another story. If I just need in my door, one press of unlock. But for all the others, I'll hit the thing a total of at least 3 times. Sometimes much more than that, since my transmitters have some mad crazy range and like a moron I'll usually unlock the car WAY before I ever get to it. If I don't hit unlock a time or two on the way to the car, sometimes it will lock before I can ever get back to it. lol!

I find myself pushing it twice, when I can't hear it beep or just don't pay attention to whether I clicked it or not.

I had an 03 and now I have an 05 and neither one of them beeps... something wrong with that?I also had an issue when I came home from the store one day, hit the fob to lock the doors and there was no flash from the lights. I didn't think much of it at the time, just figured it wasn't working for some odd reason. Ended up there was a door ajar... and it rained that night! To say the least, I had a wet seat in the morning. If you lock it and it doesn't flash... check your doors!!!*I ALWAYS check now*

Most of the time I push it twice to lock it, but did you know if you hit the unlock button twice and do not open the doors within 30 seconds it will automatically lock back or at least it does on my '05 Vibe. Has anyone else noticed this?

Yup, it is an automatic safety feature - after 20 seconds it will relock if you unlock but do not open the doors.

I got in the habit of hitting it multiple times, only cause I used to own a car that the button didn't work well, and you had to hit the button at least twice to set the alarm, so I would just hit it like 5-6 times while walking away to make sure. I guess now that I have the vibe, I just do it from habit.

Ithink it relocks the car if the driver door in not opened. So, unlock the car and get into the hatch and leave. it relocks on its own.
