First off i would like to say I KNOW this has been covered SO many times. and i have searched and read all the topics on disabling DRL's and i REALLY want to do this mod but i have a few questions. On a scale of 1-10 how hard is it (1 being easy)? I basicly want to know how hard it is to find the wire harnes and cut the red/white wire.if i some-how manage to even find this wire harness which wire is it..i know its a red/white one but where do i cut it and where is it on the harness? pin # 12 means nothing to me if i do this mod will it AFFECT anything such as airbag sensor or radio etc?Can i still use the switch to turn on just the yellow turn signals - lights -brights- and fogs on??...cuz thats the look i am going for (just yellow turn signals)..i just dont want to cut the wire and have the lights not work again...And just to clarify things -if i cut the red/white wire will the check engine light come on?-and when i just start the lights Will not come on..and i can use the switch to just turn the yellow on then the yellow and lights and then the fog lamps..As far as safty goes i will turn on my yellow turn signals..i personaly belive they distinguish cars from motocycles and i perosnaly knotice yellow lights on cars faster than DRL's..Im sorry on making such a long post..but i read where someone di this mod and it cost them 126 bucks to go to the dealer and get it replaced and it could have costed a 1000 bucks so after reading that i was alittle sceptical...and answers would be great!
I haven't done this mod, so I can't help with the ?s, but wanted to add a bit trivia: in Texas (don't know if it's the whole state or certain jurisdictions) it's illegal to drive with just parking lights on. The idea is they're for parking, not driving.
2005 Platinum Base ManualSide & Curtain AirbagsABSPower PackageTinted Windows"Mods": 'old-style' center armrest, center +12v, wheelskins leather steering wheel, AC/Recirc blue backlight, beeps on keyless entry, dome light switch, AC insulation, PCD10 10-disc CD/MP3 changer, AAI-GM12 AUX audio input, K&N filter, "shark fin" antenna.
I have performed this mod...I would give it a 2 by your scale...i simply cut the red/white wire as shown in a picture on one of the other threads. The harnes is under the dash on the driversside if you stick your head on the floor by the pedals and look up you should see it. sorry i dont have a picture of it yet. maybe i can get that taken care of tommorow.I wired a switch in with it.I used spade conections so i can return the vehicle to stock.I have full use of the headlights in any configuration....I have not seen or heard ANY side-effects that may worry you. I mostly leave the switch on (DRL/AHL engaged or stock opperation) but when I want full control or just parking lights on at night in my parking lot i can switch to the off position giving me full control of the lights.i hope these have answered your questions. if not let me know and i'll try to better answer any others.
Re GMJAP's comment on Texas law, the same is true in California:"CVC 24800. No vehicle shall be driven at any time with the parking lamps lighted except when the lamps are being used as turn signal lamps or when the headlamps are also lighted."But it's allowed in Michigan as long as it's not at a time when normal headlights would be required. Unfortunately I see lots of drivers with just the parking lights on well after dark. I suspect they originally turned them on before dusk and then forgot to turn on the regular lights. An easy mistake to make if on well-lit roads since the dash lights in the car look the same when running just the parking lights as they do when running headlights.
Thanx so much for your replys! but..How can the HHR, COBALT, 04-up GRAND PRIX, MONTANA, CARAVAN, SV6, UPLANDER etc. have there parking lamps on when the driver puts it in drive?? And not everyone that drives those vehicles have done that mod to them i can assure you..
I've done this mod with great success, I also put a switch on mine so I can have it like stock for some odd reason. I also disabled the auto on at night switch and can run my fogs with just my parking lights if I so choose. All of which are easy as or easier than the drl mod.
Replying to my previous post why it is not illegal for those cars to run there turn signals and not be illegal??And so cutting the red/white wire wont dissable the DRLs and atuo head lights?

Cutting the red/white wire on the vibe will disable both (AHL and DRL) at same time...if you put a male/female spade(quick-connect) connector on each end you can reconect the wire returning to the stock opperation. I did this as well as wire a switch in between the cut wire so that I can easily switch from the dash.

I looked up there and there were so many i got dizzy and gave up LOLAnd im still dying to hear why those cars periviously mentioned can run there turnsignals and still be legal in cali and texas...
This is not my vibe but This was the image i used. along with a write up here:http://dalenet.com/matrixvibe/this person went a tiny bit more complicated but the basics are there.
I cut the white wire with the red strip...and the red wire with the white strip..do i have to connect the white wire with the red strip again?...i tryed it and everything works...

You didn't specify whether you wanted the ability to switch on/off the DRL circuit. If you only want to disable the DRL, you can disconnect the sensor in the top of the dash. Be sure to secure the lead in case you want to reconnect it later. On a scale of 1-10, this is the easiest; I'll say 1½.If you want to install an unlit switch to turn on the DRL circuit, then you'll have to cut the Red/White wire at pin 12 and wire up a switch. This has been done numerous times without any problems affecting other functions. On a scale of 1-10, this is a 3.Now, if you want to install a switch with an indicator light, you'll have to add a ground wire and make sure you properly connect your load, otherwise you'll blow the 10A Gauge fuse (like I did). Still, this isn't much harder and I'd say it's a "4".Here's my post regarding this install.http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=18924Here is a very good article on installing a lit switch:http://www.electrolund.com/2005/02/matrix-drl-mod/
well i cut both wires! the white and red strip wire i put back together..and now the high beams work..i hope that doesnt blow a fuse becasue i cut it and reconnected it! Or have everything else stop working like you did.But everything else works fine..I think i want to connect a switch so that everything works stock..but when i want to shut off the drls or auto lights i can...
