ANO_Vibe's car-tuning future (opinions)

Post by GrayFox »

I'm bored and am mainly just talking here but I want to know what the genvibe community thinksAnyway, as all you you know I have a '05 Vibe. I plan on paying it off (someday) and keeping it as a family car as long as it will run. I desperately want something to work on, a project car. I don't want to/can't go completely crazy with whatever I get b/c I don't have alot of money. I'm only 21 so I know I have the rest of my life to make my dreams a reality. I want to mod the Vibe a little but I mainly planned on it being my wife's car when/if I get a second one. Whatever I get, it will have to be older and it will still be a few years before I will be financially stable enough (financially stable, now there's a funny phrase) to really get someting else. This is where we get to the cars.1. 90-95ish Mitsubishi 3000gt Awesome car, hella fast (VR-4) but I probly couldn't find one (VR-4) with decent miles and probly couldn't afford to rebuild one. but a base with some options would be a good starting point.2. 93-96ish Nissan 300zxPretty much the same as no. 13. 96-2000ish Pontiac Firebird/Trans AMI really like Pontiacs so this would be my choice if I went big V8 muscle.4. 96 Honda Accord EXMy mom's car. She says she's getting tired of driving a stick. I like this car and they have alot of potential. This is also the most feasable option since she bought it cheap from a friend of our family (~3k I think and miles aren't to bad, sub 100k) Well taken care of too. I like the idea of having a powerful 4 banger.Anyway let your opinions fly. This was pretty much an idea I needed out of my head. Thanksedit: option 4 save, save, save and get a mazdaspeed 3

^ dont listen to him!!! the honda seems the best for you.its cheapest and easiest one to fix/mod. am parts are hella cheap!the are good engines... and you could buy a turbo and get like 300hp to the wheels.I love 300zx's they are fast and easy to mod too.But its all on preference and affordability. so do what you can without financially hurting yourself.

Whatever you do get make sure you have enough money to pay for it. You will never get to mod or fix any car you are making payments on.. Too much to do car payments and fix. Just my .02

thanks guysThe Accord is what I'm thinking of aiming at as a short term goal of sorts, and when I'm older hopefully with better job, lower insurance and all I can play with the big toys then just a note: sleep well knowing that if/when I get that Accord I'm not going to be a ricer Honda

I say save as much as you can so you can buy your mazdaspeed3. if you need a car get the cheapest one, so the honda, and then keep on saving.

you can have a bomb looking honda and not look like a ricer! or sound like one.You could put a nice body kit (not too crazy) and lower it on some nice rims, put a good system on it with a REAL exhaust. and it would look good. plus good gas milage!

Guess I will be the lone dissenter here and say..."Go for the V8!!!" But then, I am a bit biased as I drove a '77 Formula throughout high school.

I really like the buddyclub2 kit. Mainly what I meant about ricer honda was I plan on real exhaust (there are too many imports around here with ricer exhausts) and no huge spoiler (I prefer lip spoilers)Quote, originally posted by northvibe »hahha well a turbo mazda stock is nice, but its more expensive than a used honda civic...i was just saying try to save your money now so that you can afford the mazda a little later.a little? lolI asked my wife about this evil scheme over my lunch break and she is actually kinda sorta into it... well she doesn't have a problem with me bringing it up to my mom

Well, I talked to my mom today and told her I was interested and not to trade it in or anything. She said it would be a while til she thought about a different car. The Accord has about 160k miles on it (more than I thought) but that doesn't really concern me being that I plan for a Prelude engine swap or rebuild the accord engine. Looks like I just have to wait now, Thanks for all the input guys

Well, 3000GT VR4 is my favorite new-age car. One by my house was for sale, all wheel drive, 50,000miles, sunroof, chroime wheels. It was listed for $25,000 and it was only out for 3 days if that before someone bought it....good luck finding one!My buddy just had a twin turbo 300zx with over 600 horse power. He was talkin to me one night when we met up about trading it in for a 350z, just as he said that he tried starting his 300 and it didn't start. Nothing bad, the neg. terminal was disconnected but it was definately ironic. He did trade it in for a 350z a day later. The older Z's seem to have transmition issues.Accords are boring and allways will be, but a friend of a friend took me for a ride in his bult up Accord, I beleive was runnign 13psi of boost and it was probably the fastest car I've ever been it. I couldn't even pull my head out of the headrest while it was accelerating. Of course that was after ALOT of money on turbos and ALOT of tiem put into it.Camaros, Mustangs, and Firebirds after the early 90's are EVERYWHERE. Everybody and their cousin's dog (haha) has one. Very boring cars and not unique in the slightest, although I have to agree with NUBlackshirts, with getting a V8 I'm getting tired of slow four cylinders in my life (removed)...I wouldn't save for a Speed 3 either. Even though faster than a Vibe they are still slow for what you could get for the money. If I were you I would be lookin at old school muscle. Like late 80's Monte Carlo, Hurst olds, GNX, '76 firebird/camaro. Even some imports from back in the day, datsun 280zx or 240zx or maybe even a 510 if you could find one. late 80's Supra or 300zx would be fun. The older Celicas are slow as hell but they look really good if you restore them.

I would opt for this. This is my freind Joe's 300 Z twin turbo. He just switched to a 5 speed stick, bigger turbos all that stuff. pushing over 400 horsies. Funfun.

I still think the car behind the Z is awefully tight, but I'm a little partial.

The mid-90's 300Z is my all-time favorite looking car. Best design out there still, IMNSHO.

go with #2 (he he I said #2) one of the best cars built to date, its a real tossup between that and the VR4. I just took a girl I know to pick up a VR4 she found for $9000 excellent condition and 12,000 miles on it. some old man had it garage kept and needed to get rid of it. They are both beautiful cars but for some reason I'd jump on the 300z before the 3000gt

I love the z car but I think that will be a project for later in life, maybe, hell I don't know... I'd like to have another car (sooner or later) and the honda is within reach. I know my mom would give it to me cheap. buuuuut on the other hand maybe after a few years I can find a 300zxWouldn't the 3000gt/300zx option have more expensive upkeep? (dumb question)I think I will try and get the honda when the time comes and also keep my eyes open for a nissan

parts for the 3000Gt are still rather expensive, parts for the 300zx are getting borderline cheap, if you can get the Honda cheap then no doubt statch that up. Honda may be the icon for ricers, but thats in the eyes of people who never understood the true meaning of 'rice'. Honda's are cheap to mod, the market is flooded with aftermarket support and for just a couple thousand you can be riding in a 10 second car. If you find a good prced Z later down the road I'd def jump on it if you can financially. Not only can the car be made into a beast but just like our domestic car today, its one of the few imports left with some herritage.

Here's the deal. The Accord may be cheap to buy and run well but it is going to cost ALOT of money to make it somewhat fast. The 3000GT and 300ZX are already fast. There is a beautiful 1995 300ZX twin turbo pearl white for sale by my house. Chrome wheels, t-tops, 25,000 miles on original engine and trans, no rust no scratches, no dents, no leaks. Absolutely beautiful. Only $11,000.

Sounds like a awesome deal but I won't be the one getting it b/c I don't have the funds at the moment. I would love to have one (I hope to evenentually). If it's still available in a few years I'll see what I could do Thanks
