At my office this Friday is our 2nd annual Employee car show. Naturally I want to bring my used 1998, 8 year old, 57,000 mile, used Corvette to the show. I said it like this for a reason... Equally my friend wants to bring his used 1991 16 year old 911 Porsche convertible. Both of us have wanted our cars since we were teens and have worked our butts off to get them... Here is the issue... Lots of people in our company are saying to our faces "you Account Managers must be doing pretty well since you are driving a Corvette and Porsche". Scott and I look at them in disbelief... We know one reason why they are saying these things and it is because we are eligible to get yearly bonuses and they are left with the company bonus. The company bonus is not as good as the Acct. Managers and ours is not good as managements. These people are ONLY looking at the car and not their age or anything else! Plus we do not always get yearly bonuses, it depends on our numbers at the end of the year! I also tell them when an Acct. Mang job gets posted apply for it if you think we have such a plush job! These people never do... And if we did not bring in the work they all would not have jobs, either would we! Scott is not bringing his car and I am starting to think the same. Why do these people have to ruin it for others? If it were not for us, there would be no show at all. AND all the money goes to charity, company matched...
i say bring the damn car. let them be jealous. if you do make more, it's for a reason right?on a side note, since when is a '91 porsche a rich man's car?

^ +1DUDE... i sometimes think that, how lucky they must be to have nice stuff... but yeah they either got it for free cuz of daddy or they are earning it! just like me. im not wealthy but i can afford to hook up my car here and there and still save and still plan on a wedding in the future... so they are just depresed cuz they want more money/ materialistic things.F'm and take that bad boy... make sure you share pics!!!

yea take the car! maybe they think its new because you keep it so fresh and clean yea i dont get their thinking used sports cars are fairly affordable, i mean you still need to work hard to get one, congrats on owning the car you always wanted though!
Dont be ashamed of the car and take it. you worked hard to get it... You should be proud of yourself and not let others bother you. In the end everyone thinks their neighbor has more than them anyway. DONT try to keep up with the Jones'!

I just am so mad right now at this!!! It is none of their business how we got our cars and I for one have been saving since I was 21! Why is it OK for others to have snowmobiles, bikes or 2nd houses up in Northern Michigan but we get flack for a used car! I should wear a tux and have my wife and a couple other hot women sitting and laying on the hood of my car!
rent or buy a glass looking cane... and look all pimp.

remember the saying "the grass is always greener?" well alot of people think that way.I feel the same way you do whenever someone says " you UAW workers got it so easy" or "the Unions are what is ruining this country"they don't know any better...... they are jealous. take your car. when they make those statements explain to them how you came about to own the car. and when they don't believe you just shrug your shoulders and reply: Quote, originally posted by MiVibe-ToolGuy » Why is it OK for others to have snowmobiles, bikes or 2nd houses up in Northern Michigan but we get flack for a used car!

one of the guys I work with doing the same thing I am drives a new BMW but yeah ok. I have accepted people do different things with their money and can afford things I can't. Just because you guys own some cool cars doesn't mean that everyone else should know what your getting paid. tell them to (removed) off and take the cars there, have fun and RUB THAT IN! heh. I would.

If you do that, I will need to drive over during lunch!I am jealous that you have a Vette. You must make a lot of money, while those of us within GM are barely able to buy feed for the chickens.

You work hard to afford that car, and I'm sure you're doing without SOMETHING to have that car...maybe a 2nd house on the lake?If you take hot women, we MUST see pics.....MUST MUST MUST>...Seriously, you've always gone out of your way to be helpful to me on both a personal and professional level, I hold no grudge that you have a Corvette....but the fact that you still have a Vibe.....well, that....LOL.....nevermind, the Vibe is negated by the PT Cruiser... Todd, take the Vette!

Take the car, enjoy showing it, don't feel guilty or let others make you feel that way. Too many people don't understand that in our economy, one person's success does not come at their own expense. You always wanted a Corvette, you took the steps necessary to achieve your goal (both in earning money and choosing how to spend or save it) and made it happen. Congratulations!

bah. you worked hard and earned what you have. it doesn't matter what anyone else says or thinks, you deserve to show it off. you should both be there like proud papas, and with every dollar you raise you should smile a little bit wider.
too be perfectly honest I am extremely jeolous of any Corvette owners.. expensive car, expensive maintenance, expensive gas, expensive insurance, expensive tires.. etc..but hey you worked hard, you saved your money, by all means you should drive it and enjoy it. Bring it to work. If people complain tell them you worked hard for it and you love it..If they cry.. big deal they are jeolous.. but that doesn't mean you shouldn't bring your ride! Congrats on an awesome car!cheersMartin
go anyways. who cares! they are unhappy employees, maybe if they did a better job they would move up and quit complaining. i'm sure you put a lot of hard work and hours to get where you are. if they are real jerks, make them watch the corporate spin - addressing employee complaints. first videoAddressing Employee Complaints

Having a car you covet isn't a crime. Yet. Enjoy the day and enjoy your fine 'used' ride! Screw 'em if they can't take a joke.

(removed)!but we understand. both phil and i are making good money. next year will be a house, then his STI, then.... pay off my LGT (vibe will be paid off by then). pay off most everything and then in a few yrs or so, i'll look into my 2 seater roadster.. we'll just have to see how it all pans out. (unless they make a TRUE Legacy STI).
Everyone brings up some great points... And thanks to all that listened! Someone else said I should rent a Ferrari, that will give them something to talk about! The tux, pimp hat and cane are also excellent ideas! It is sad because while my company is large my actual office is small and word travels. I still am not sure what I will do, maybe it will rain. I thought about it all night, I guess it is just something that comes with the car, standard equipment and not an option...
As a small business owner, I often get the same feeling or attitude from employees and customers. When you pull up to a customer site driving some spanky clean sports car, or even a "luxury" car, the customer can think that you are overcharging them.If you show up in an old rusty beater, then they think you aren't good enough to be profitable, and think you are a hack. The best one was during a late night service call at a factory, I parked my 92 Accord Coupe out back by the employee entrance to bring some repair parts in, and one of the workers after finding out I was the owner, asked where my BMW was.I laughed and said "That's not quite the case. Long hours, less pay than the employees, constant headaches, stress levels through the roof". Bring your car, and your buddy should too. You work hard, save your money and should enjoy your stuff.Like you say, if your job is so easy, the whiners should apply for it.

no, my roadster would be for summer and auto-x. but really, todd, you work HARD for what you have. no one should fault you for it. and if they view it as success, then you tell them, well... after so many years of your hard work and dedication, they should be able to do the same. if they are just complainers, then you can remind them their job could be worse: they could not have one! or your company outsource! lol. really, you gotta watch that video link!
(removed) Hope that was funny! I missed that this morning... That is an excellent clip! Reminds me of the BBC The Office show, the better version! And right, these whiners do not know how good they actually have it! (and yes I will admit, I have held a 9V to my tongue)
