Which amp to go with?

Post by J-freakie »

I have a set of Infinity Kappa Perfects 12.1D's 350RMS. And I would LOVE to install them in my gf's (ashleymc_38) vibe. I'll be running 1 or 4ohm and very well possibly 8 guage speaker wire ... maybe 4 guage wire and obviously the recomended guage wire for the amp. She needs a good amp, is there a certian brand that you would choose over? Thanks a TON!dan

4 guage, and even 8 guage wire for the speakers is way overkill. You probably don't need anything thicker than 12-14. Choose your preference and how much you want to spend. Alpine, JL, MTX, etc.

Well, the ones that I have been looking at, MAINLY Alpine ... they dont put out at 1ohm. I would love to have 500 watts per sub.dan

So wait, what's the coil configuration on those? Dual Voice coil at 2 Ohm per coil?

If you have both of them wired at 2ohms ... that will equal 1ohm. I know it doesnt make sence (math wise) but it kinda does, lolI have not found many (if any) amps over the internet that will support 1ohm @ >= 400 per sub. Well, atleast withing an afordable price range.dan

Hifonics Brutus, Hercules, or Titan, Rockford power series, Soundstream Picasso or EGA, Cadence DCA, Autotek Class X, Earthquake PHD........the list goes on and on for reasonably priced 1 ohm stable 1000+ watt amps. I myself am a new Hifonics Hercules owner. As soon as It is here (tracking info says the 23rd.) I'll let you know how it performs. The Brutus' have been pretty wicked for the buck.

Yeah, it depends on what you count as 'affordable'. Running at 1 Ohm isn't something for the faint hearted. And I know math on subwoofers. I just needed to know if they're Dual 2 ohm, or dual 4 ohm. From what you SEEM to be saying, they're dual 4 ohm.

I believe the 12.1D only comes in a Dual 4ohm.If thats the case then you will get either 1 or 4ohm output. Since they are 350RMS and your going with a pair that means that they recommend 700RM. I would look into a 1000watt amp. Brands to go with, hmmm, maybe Kicker, Orion, Hifonics, JBL, JL Audio, and possibly Memphis.
