HELP! Broke Drivers Side Mirror!

Post by ZubenElGenubi »

Okay, I had a blonde/senior moment last night while backing out of my brother's garage. I knocked off the driver's side mirror! The good news is I didn't break the housing completely off. In fact, it is still attached to the car and I think I can get it back to its original position (see the first picture). The bad news is I don't know how to get the mirror back on AND if it will work. One of the blue pins is still attached to the mirror (vertical) and the other is still in the motor (see 2nd pic for back of mirror)Also, both motors still turn, but I would have expected to see them move in or out and that's not happening.I saw the_nite_owl's post about his heaters but that's not helping much. Can anyone help describe how to attach the mirror again and if they think it will work?Housing:Mirror:

"If you turn the mirror all the way to the inside and up then both positioners are pushed back into the motor housing and you have a larger gap on the bottom right corner to see into. You can gently pry outward and slightly upward, working your hand further in so that you run less risk of bending and cracking the mirror and the backing plate will pop off of the large center pivot ball.At that point you are still connected to the two positioner arms but you have a lot more room now as the mirror swings further out from the housing. The positioners are rods that push out from the motor housing. They attach to the backing plate the same way the pivot ball does, just by having a round end pushed into a round socket and they are only snapped into place. The trick is to not PULL them out as you could pull them right out of the motor or bend/break the shaft. At this point though you have plenty of room to reach in with a flat bladed screwdriver and placing it between the end of the shaft and the backing plate you can twist the screwdriver so that it pushes the backing plate away from the shaft causing it to pop out of it's socket without pulling on the positioner shaft. If you do the top one first then you can pivot the mirror down to give yourself more room to do the same to the inside positioner."- the_night_owlso sounds like the blue things are clips, if your clips are broken into the glass holder part. Maybe you can use gurilla glue or something to hold it back on.

Yea, I've already read the_nite_owl's post but that focuses on removing the mirror, not getting it back on.Just removed the whole assembly and found the plastic inside has twisted so that I can't force it back in place completely. I decided to "finish the job" and remove the inner assembly completely and then disassemble it as much as possible then epoxy it back together. It fits clean now, just want to make sure it stays that way.Of course, if I find $150 somewhere, I might just go ahead and install a new one.

Oh i posted the night owl quote to show how it was connected. because it think those clips broke on yours...Its hard to tell ive never actually took my mirror off. but was saying you would have to glue yours back on.hahah you could get one of those cheap CF with blinker side mirrors on ebay jk i wouldnt recommend those. yea sounds like you did what i would do epoxy/glue that part back on and hope for the best.

I lucked out...the motor clips weren't broken. I mounted the mirror on to test before I epoxied the housing.Still, think I'll be getting a new mirror. If I could just find a decent housing, I'd get that instead, but I'll probably have to buy the whole assembly.

That really blows man that the mirror came off and you have to get a new one. Well that happend to my bro but not that kind of way and the mirror didnt fall out either the whole thing fell off side mirror and all but we got it fixed. Plus it wasent his fault some ladie was in a rush in a parking lot and smacked it off and it was hanging by the wires lol but its all good now but good luck man you should get some with some blinkers on it or something pretty sweet stuff there lol peace
