Vee Dub in da HOUSE!

Post by tnpartsguy »

Well, today was an odd day....we went to look at a 1991 MR2 that my wife wanted to buy as a playtoy, and ended up buying a 2002 Jetta GLS (5 Speed). Didn't trade anything in, she took the cash she was going to pay to buy the MR2, and put it down on the VW. Then, once her deal was done, they tried to trade me out of the Vibe!! Came close too, they wanted to trade me for a 2004 Jetta wagon....half the miles, ALL of it's paint!.....if it had been any color but Silver, I, too would be representing Deutchland tonight!

Congrats, partsguy! That looks like a super nice car. Hope she enjoys the new ride. And so, VW paints their cars too? LOL!

The receiver you have installed in my brain without my knowledge apparently malfunctioned, as I did not get the message to buy a Volkswagen. You may wish to debug the system a bit more before continuing with your plan, or else further inconsistencies may result. Please ensure that the other people's receivers will properly brainwash them into Volkswagen purchasing. I shall not give up my Hyundai though... Korean engineering in the house.... lol!

I love VW! Let's see...at one time or another, I have owned an '82 Quantum, an '84 Scirocco, an '89 Cabriolet, and a '94 Jetta. The Scirocco and the Cabriolet were my favorites. The Jetta was crap and I think that's why I went back to Pontiacs. Couldn't get rid of that thing fast enough! That being said, I would buy another VW if the chance came around. Congrats!

Yes, we kept the S10....no way out of it! (I owe $9k on it, KBB value is $5,800).I'm going to start using the S10 as my DD, and park the Vibe, as the Vee Dub will be her DD. Parkign the Vibe for the most part makes the most sense, it's about 5k over average miles for it's age, I'm still right side up on it right now, but if I continued to drive it as much as I had, I would end up upside down in it too....at this point I could sell it for cash and be ok, or sell it back to the dealership for exactly what I owe on it just to get out if possible....or neccessary

OH NO>.....the Vibe gets around 20~22 around town, because I live like less than a mile and a quarter from work....the Vibe doesn't even get an emission cycle complete between here and work....the truck gets about 27 in town, and 30+ hwy. The Vee Dub is the 2.0 with a 5 speed, it's rated in the low 30's hwy, high 20's city.

Not too shabby. With numbers that dramatically different, I'd be driving the S-10 too... I'm sure you'll enjoy the savings in fuel. I know I'm enjoying the better mileage I'm getting compared to what I was getting with the Vibe. Every little bit helps when you're talking about close to three bucks a gallon!Just let that Vibe sit for a while, the miles will kill you if/when you get rid of it.

Sorry. I have to say it. As an owner of a 98 Beetle since new, I must say I would never buy their cars again. They look great, they drive wonderful, they feel expensive. But believe me, that wonderful interior and ride came at the expense of cheap crap parts. When you spend about 2K of your hard earned cash a year to keep the thing on the road, you'll understand. It won't strand you. The core engines are reliable. But when you go through 7 power window switches in 6 years, when the CV joints fail at 4 years, when the $400 mass air flow sensor goes, when the seat won't stay tightened, the chassis bushings split, the tranny stumbles, the HAVAc controls fail, the windows fall into the doors and shatter, the car burns oil with 30k miles on it, brake jobs are $700, cheap plastic coolant parts split and leak, gas cap fails to open, I can go on but won't. Here's the deal though. I love the car. It has a soul that Japanese cars can only dream of. We will never sell it. You will curse it often, but you will love the German handling and budget BMW feel the Jetta will give. Just, start saving for repairs now, or I hope to God you got an extended warranty.

I had hoped that VW was getting their "issues" under control, but it doesn't sound like it. That's why I ditched the Jetta...in the shop way too much. Made me sad to leave VW, but it was killing my wallet.

VW's Certified Pre-Owned Program gives you 2 yr/24 month beyond any remaining factory warranty. She also got an additional extended warranty to go to 5yr/100k miles.

Very rare and very expensive. Drive like a dream though. The Vibe was an upgrade, but soon enough I'll be downgrading again. I'll be getting married and the wife comes with a new Toyota Sienna. Don't need two new vehicles in my driveway. Don't need the car payments either if I can get away with it. Probably won't be going back to a VW though, jeffgtx, because repairs were Thinking of a Corolla or Prism

Wait til you see that every repair requires a special tool. Special tools you can't rent from autozone. Special tools that cost hundreds. Beware of the A4/passat chassis. Many have had multiple front suspension failures. Mostly idler arms. Sorry to be a kill joy. I am very happy the Vibe is not a VW.

This is one OE we do not make special tools for... Their tools come right from Germany! We are trying to get the business but have not been successful yet, we do have their equipment program though.

Review; 2003 VW Jetta GLS 2.0 (aka in the VW world as the 2 point SLOW) 5 speed.Well, having not driven the VR6 Jetta, I can't say I agree with that nickname, this car feels as peppy as any small car I have driven. Interior- The seats are comfortable, and very supportive, the only thing I dislike is the material, while being very grippy, is also a magnet for lint! One of the purchases I made to keep in the car for cleaning was a lint roller.Instrumentation- Wow... at night, the cluster is a cool blue backlit, as is the main radio display. Everything else, and I DO mean everything....(even the A/C duct directional levers and all the window/door lock switches!) are lit up with a very smooth appearing red back light.Exterior- a little generic, but with some high value features, such as standard fender side repeaters. The fuel tank door is on the passengers side, and there are release buttons for both it and the trunk on the drivers door panel, also included are power mirrors with a defrost feature. The standard sunroof is a breeze (lol) to work.Audio- Car came with the upgraded Monsoon audio package, and AM/FM/CD/Cassette radio.1st trip I took (180 miles round) I got 29.7 MPG, running at 80 MPH most of the way. I think it will easily hit 35 on the trip to and from MS, with the lighter foot on the pedals.
