After reading Ragingfish's post about his misfortune (I'm glad he wasn't injured), I felt the need to vent a little. Two weeks ago my son (16) was riding his bicycle home from a friend's house just after midnight on a Saturday.A car came up behind him (he was riding on the sidewalk, where it's supposed to be safe), and leaned on the horn.As he turned his head to see what the problem was, he lost control, went over the bars and did a faceplant, knocking out one of his front teeth at the gum line, and breaking the other in half too. (he got his braces off about a year ago)We go to the Emerg, and he gets a temporary cap, until we can get to our regular dentist. So, on Sunday afternoon, we are noticing that our dog isn't doing too well, and hasn't touched her food or water since yesterday.Monday morning we get the dog into the vet, they take a blood sample, and pronounce that she is very dehydrated, and has anemia. The blood level is suppose to be at 30-34 somethings, and hers is at 20.She gets an IV to get her fluids up, and about 5 different pills, we bring her there to stay every day, and we pick her up at night.Friday morning, my son is supposed to get a root canal done on his mostly missing tooth, but the dental surgeon now determines that the tooth is cracked right up to the root and must be surgically removed, so nothing gets done.Friday night we take the dog to an emergency clinic to stay for the weekend since her levels keep dropping, they are now at 14.Sunday afternoon we take our dog home (the house was WAY too quiet)she is a little more perky, and her blood level has risen a bit and she is at least eating and drinking. Her blood level today is at 17 and rising, so that's one good thing.I got a nail in my tire from some road work, which developed into a slow leak yesterday, and then a really fast leak today when I was out on a service call. The tire is now completely flat, and I'm in a gravel parking lot at a shooting range, they have a 110vac compressor, but no electricity and I don't have a tire chuck to fit the compressor hose anyway. One of the guys has a portable compressor, so I plug it into my lighter socket, and it doesn't work.I pull the plug out and the socket comes out of the dash with it.The compressor's plug comes apart when I finally get it out of the socket, so that thing is now useless.Another guy has one in his car, so I plug that one in, and still nothing. He plugs it into his car, so I figure that my socket probably never worked in the first place, I'll call the dealer about that.Tire is pumped and I 'm ready to go, start the car and notice that the radio won't come on. Check some other stuff, mirrors don't work either.Ok, I must have blown the fuse for the circuit. So I start looking for the fuse panel. I have no frikkin' idea where it is, and can't find it, so I limped the car back to work, got the tire fixed and then went to buy some fuses (ATO MINI style, I didn't have any). How much fun can one guy have? You know, when it rains, it just makes you appreciate the sunshine a little bit more.

(removed)! What a terrible experience... Hope your son is alright in the end and the dog does not take a turn for the worse! Just take it one step at a time, the rest will work out in the end. I am having a poor day myself due to my customer changing their minds but not nearly like your post.

Thank you all, the good will is extremely appreciated, and thanks for letting me rant a bit.The "rain" appears to have slowed a bit, things are looking more positive on a couple of fronts, and I think there has to be a sunny day or two ahead. The people here is what makes this site so special. Now, let's send some good will and luck in Ragingfish's direction.

Billie, 7 years old, 80 lbs of Border Collie/Lab cross, left us today, she struggled through last night, panting, trying to get air. Her red cell count was hovering between 13 and 15, and dropped to 12 on Thursday morning. We are all devastated, after just two weeks of illness, and the massive quantities of drugs we were giving her in the hope that it would help.I just feel numb.

an old thread bump, but I just went through the same with my dog.My nine and half old Rhodesian Ridgeback gave in to the hemolytic anemia last week. I had taken him in to the vet for a raging infection when they found the anemia. Antibiotics took care of the infection, and the steroids seemed to be working on the anemia, but he dropped from 130 to 100 pounds. After about four weeks of seemingly slow improvement, one day he was suddenly much worse, and died. Its surprising how attached one can get to a pet. You try to tell yourself it was "just a dog" but they can become such an integral part of the family. Here's a pic of him at about three months. Makes me want to get another, but it wouldn't be fair, other things going on make it where I can't give a puppy the attention it needs, so I'll be petless for a while. The house is so empty
Sorry to hear of your loss, Joatmon. Mine have never been nor will they ever be "just a dog". They are my kids and I will do everything I can for them, as you have. That pic of him in your car always makes me smile.

So sorry for your loss, joatman. And though I hadn't seen this thread before today, yours too Atomic. They do become members of the family very quickly. I know my ex and I had to put one down because of a birth defect. Though we had her for less than a month, even in that short a period of time together, it hurt.

Joatmon, I am very sorry to hear. I seen the frowning text in your signature and figured something was up, hence the reason me asking you a general question/bumping your garage thread. Thoughts/prayers with you.
