Ipod with Nav

I know I saw a thread where the Ipod was hooked up to the 2004 Nav using the Cd changer interface but can't find it now...Anyway is hooking up my Nano possible with the NAV...my fm transmitter ain't cutting it!!!

I had this with my NAV system for as long as I had the NAV: http://www.logjamelectronics.com/piex3auxconv.htmlThe PIE X3 adapter, allows for three inputs as well as the CD Changer. You also need the X3-GM12 adapter in order to work with the Nav system.It looks to me like the AAI-GM12 completely takes over the CD Changer input, if so, you'll no longer be able to listen to your factory changer on the NAV system.

damn! i wish they had something like that for mine. oh well! but one of the members on legacygt.com manufactured a system for $5 that I bought and so that's what i'm using for the auz in to my stereo. the ipod mount and what not... that's a different story! lol

Thanks guys both solutions look great and I appreciate your input. Is this something I can do myself? It would have to be pretty easy...while I can hook wires up, I 'm slightly handicapped and my days of pulling seats out and taking the dash apart are over...Also if I take to an installer is it easier to connect this at the back of the NAV or at the CD changer...let me know your thoughts and this is a lot cheaper than I thought it was going to be.

It should be something you can do yourself. As for at NAV or CD - the connectors to the CD changer are different than at the back of the NAV, and the cables you'll get with it are designed to fit the back of the radio/NAV.Other than being a bit bulkier, I would not expect the NAV to be more difficult to get to the back of than a regular head unit - but I'llhave to defer to jahntassa on this one as he's actually had a NAV.To get to the radio, you just need to remove the silver trim around it. The first part of this thread (http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=5940) has detailed info on removing the trim. (But the rest doesn't apply- so don't get too concerned )There are normally (ie on radios) four hex screws at roughly the four corners holding the head unit it. Remove them, then you can pull out the head unit. There's two connectors and a cable (the antenna) at the back. The AUX adapter will plug in between the existing smaller 12-pin connector and the back of the NAV.The AAI-GM12 (can't speak for other units, but I've installed this one) has 2 wires that have to be connected to switched +12V and ground. These can be spliced to 2 respective wires on the larger 24-pin connecter. If you can find some T-Tap splices, it'll make it a lot easier. They just clip around a wire, sqeezing through the insulation to make contact. Whatever you decide, good luck.

Thanks Jahntassa and GMJAP, I was going to have Jahntassa hook this up for me but after receiving unit figured I could do myself...Well, not the 30 minute install but finally got it working...instructions to hook to a power source with this unit are not correct...They point you to pin B3 a green or pink cable...these are speaker wires not power wires, so my initial install got distorted audio and a speaker that did not work...Fortunately I had the wiring specs on the NAV unit left in the car after the dealer installed a noise filter for the cd player which never worked...Anyway the positive power comes from pin B2 a gray wire...once I hooked to that the unit worked great...now all I have to do is cram it all back in the dash, mount the switch and I'm done..once again thanks for the help and the Nano sounds AWESOME!!!

Oh forgot to mention once it was all hooked back up the NAV thought I was at 1394 Pennsylvania Ave D.C.....didn't plan on visiting the pres or Congress tonight but the Vibe must have...recalibrated the unit and now it says I'm back at home...strange...do you think I'll have any other issues???

Glad to hear it's working out for you! As to the Nav issue, I don't know much about them so i couldn't say if you'll get more issues. I would venture a guess, though, that the calibration was reset by removing power when taking it out, which might be why it needed to be recalibrated. Hope you don't have more issues!

If the NAV lost power at any point, it 'defaults' to a wierd home position. After reacquiring GPS, it'll reposition itself correctly. Nothing to worry about.If it does it and you HAVEN'T pulled power to the NAV, check your connections and make sure nothing is loose.
