Where do your dog(s) ride in the car?

Post by slvrvibes »

If you have a dog or multiple dogs, where in the car do you put them when taking them on a car ride?Just curious to see where most people put there dogs. My dog rides in the back seat of my vibe and I always put a seat cover on the seat to protect it and keep it clean. She is a 2 1/2 lab mix. She is always one excited dog.

My two Border Collies (Hailey-F-52lbs & Zephyr-M-62lbs. - they're big boned) go in the back cargo area with the seats up for short trips and seats down for long trips.

I haven't ever had the dachsie crew in the Vibe, but in mom's Trailblazer, Casey rides in the back in a crate because he'd be all over the car otherwise, he gets so excited...and Tyler and Abby ride in the back and front seats, respectively, with their leashes tethered to the locked seat belts so they can't jump down out of the seat or do anything much except stand up or lay down. I like those doggie car seats though, we just don't have one. I plan to get one when I get a dachsie of my own after we get a house though.

My Yorkie stays in the back seat in his crate at all times. I tried to let him run loose back in the day but he is too small, too fast, and too hyper for things to be safe.

When I take mine anywhere (Golden American Lab mutt and Mutt with Terrier-like-features, former at about 70lbs, latter around 25ish), they hang in the back seat. The lab will hop in the car with no problem, but I have to pick up the Terrier and put him in, he's not a big fan of car rides. They'll both sit or lay in the back seat, the lab will stick his head out the window at times. One time I transported him in his crate in the back (I had the subs out) and he kept falling over because of the plastic tray in the crate!

My boys: King- a little over a year old- sheperd/husky, around 75 lbs:Me and Ozzy: Chow/Rott, 70bs- he's such a baby:Anyways- I just picked up my Vibe last Friday- I put a rubber mat and tied it down to the anchors, I can still flip the backseat up and down. I always put it down for the dogs and just open the tailgate. This car is perfect for the dogs!

Bailey Rides in the Passenger Seat. I usually tie a extra leash to the Pass door pull to contain him. Last time I picked up at the 'bad' groomers (long story, suffice it to say he was terrorised and hasn't and WON'T be going back there) he rode on my left leg and the drivers armrest.

I just made a throw blanket for the back seat when the "boyz" are in the car. I'm going to make seat cover to match the front for when they are not in there. I haven't had our 100lb golden retriever in there yet. Teddy my little rat terrier sidekick rides in the back seat in a Oversized Snoozer Pet Car Seat. I bought a second harness to put some padding on the shoulders for when we travel. He's my road trip buddy. Been to MI twice and NC twice.

I don't have any dogs, but I do get the pleasure of hauling my sister's two around every once in a while. Seeing how one is 60 pounds and the other is about 80 they get to ride with the rear seats folded around. So after the trip I have five windows to clean slobber off of. They usually aren't restrained, but they should be. Especially Hilde, she enjoys barking and chasing cars in the back. Not to mention the panic stops and they go sliding forward on the plastic floor into the front seats.HildeCoach

Awwww.... everybody's dogs are so cute! I have a 12 year old mix breed (Bogey) that rides in the passenger front seat. He gets too nervous anywhere else. I do have a fleece-type blanket that I put on the seat because he sheds a lot. He also likes to "argue" with me when I get in on my side. I think HE wants to drive the vibe!

If there are more than two people in the car, the dog rides in the back cargo area. If nobody is in the back seat, then I fold the rear seats down, or he'll jump onto the seats and dog hair the fabric. If nobody is in the car, he wants to drive.

in two airline crates in the back with the seats folded down. They are in crates for their protection, not the Vibe's. In an accident dogs tend to fly all around the vehicle so do them a favor and box them in :-)

My kids ride in the back, seat down, lots of blankets, dog barrier to keep them back there. I wonder if they make one of those plexi glass police barriers to fit the Vibe. I need something to keep them from drooling down the back of my neck.

Handsome pups, everyone!I have a black, long-haired GSD & a Belgian Sheepdog. When just one boy goes along for the ride, he rides in the back seat with a harness & attached to the seatbelt. I have a doggy "hammock" to protect the seat & keep the dog from going to the floor if I have to hit the brakes. When both boys go for a ride, the back seat goes down & they have the entire cargo area.

I take him on rides 2-3 times a week when I have to just run around, so I really haven't even messed with it, its the slobber that makes it to the back window that's the problem. He's the only one that's been in the backseat. You're look pretty comfy with the seats all folded down, and the blankets.

My biggest problems are cleaning the nose marks off all the windows. That stuff is tough to get off after it dries. And getting the dog hair out of the headliner. It never fails that they shake as soon as they get in the car, and the hair goes everywhere.

you do realize that alowing your pet to hang their head out the window as you drive isn't the safest thing to do? I realize they "like to sniff the air" but all the bugs or dirt flying around could do damage to a pets sight if it were to hit him/her in the eyes. You wouldn't hang your head out the window for this very reason, why would anyone alow their dog to do it.

Our two dogs (Zoey - Beagle/Dachshund mix & Rory - Beagle) get the entire rear area of the Vibes. We have a screen that attaches to the headrests on the front seats to keep them in the rear area. We have 2 GM cargo mats which we put down to cover the backs of the rear seats and the cargo area floor. We also have 2 beds that go down over the GM cargo mats so they have something soft and comfortable to lay down on. They love riding in the Vibes! We have to be sure and engage the window locks though because Rory has learned how to put the rear windows all the way down !
