Buying a new Vibe before Dec 2002 ??

Post by Dan »

HI, I would like to buy a vibe... FACT : I've got a GM VISA card with a great rebate on it (more than 1500 $ CAN) I'm also graduating from a university, so I have another 1 000 $ discount. The only problem is that after DEC 31 2002, I won't be able to take benefict of all my rebate because : First, GM will limits the rebate with a GM card VISA at 1000 $ (for a vibe or any other compact, (Sunfire, cavalier, etc...) ) and second GM won't accept that I apply my two rebate at the same time (my GM VISA and my 1000 $ graduating rebate...) I've notice that the waiting list is quite long... What my salesman told me (I live in Québec city, Qc, Canada) :To have the 2 rebates my vibe must be delivered to my dealer. For example, I can't have the 2 rebates if I don't have the key in my hand before 2003. To make sure that I will have my vibe, I had to place an order... the only problem it that I NEVER test drive it before. I put in the contract that I could cancel my order anytime before August 30 for any reason... (that is my back door exit...) I wounder if it true that I had to order a vibe right now if I want it before January 2003. The salesman told me that the price of the VIBE as gone up (because it's popularity) in the last couple of days (700 $ higher) (but I didn't see any of this on the GM site... the base vibe is always at 19,125) so I have in the contract that my vibe will cost me exactly 20,795 + tx... (19,125+700+transport) It's quite high, but the salesman told me that I had to put my order right now if I wish a car before the end of the year and that I could not negociate. You know, I'm young and I don't have a much of experience in this.. I think that is a way to high for the vibe that I'm looking for. I think that I will shop around (because of the salesman, I guess that I panic a little bit and I sign up too quickly) and if I found a better deal, I will cancel my contract (I'm glad that I put something that allow me to do this before the AUGUST 30 ) BTW I ordered a base vibe, manual transmission, color (two-tone) neptune.

I orderd my Vibe June 25th. On June 26th the salesman called me to tell me that the price of the Vibe had just gone up $700 but that I would not have to pay the increased price. So I guess the website hasn't been updated yet.

Dan, I just received my base Vibe 2 weeks ago. If you don't get the power package you can't open the liftgate or glass from inside the car. You have to use the key, even though the brochure says it is standard equipment. I also heard the interest rate is going up from 3.9 to 4.9, you should look into that. I believe you have to pay what the rate is when you receive the car. It is a very good car for the price. I would have paid a little more to get it but I'm glad I didn't. Go Expos!!

There's an easy way to tell when a dealer is lying to you - his lips are moving. Go to the http://www.Edmunds .com site for info on negotiating and what to expect. If you're ordering a car you should at least get the holdback knocked off the price. My advice is to dig around the area and see if you can find a car you like on a lot first.Larry

I also have the GM Visa card. I used about $500 savings on my first car (1998 Cavalier) then saved up around $1600 before I bought my Vibe. They said that since I have used the card once before, that I could use the full amount.
